How do I get Windows 7 to work with my USB internet thing.

Look for drivers for the usb-thang?
What's the USB model/name/stuff? You can most likely use Vista drivers to use on W7...not sure
Its a Westell C90
I want to use the Ethernet for my Xbox and the USB for my Comp.
Thats how i I had it set up on my XP.
How would I go about finding the USB Drivers?
Usually they're on the CD that came with the USB dongle. I assume it's a wireless USB reciever/transmitter for wireless internet? Either than that you'll have to Google around for "Westell C90".
Its not a wireless thing, its a little modem thing.
I have a feeling its unsupported my Windows 7 atm.
Centurytel was useless so I guess I gotta call MS.
It's a USB modem? Yea it might be unsupported, because those aren't exactly a popular choice for networking iirc.
Nooo, its a modem connected through a modem.
Is that what you meant? Or do you think I mean those little wireless anywhere USB modems?
Because it has a USB and an Ethernet plug. I want to use USB on my computer and Ethernet on my xbox. Got me?
Btw, microsoft was useless in helping also...
Let me see if I understand this:
It's a cable modem with a USB attachment as well as the typical Ethernet?
Last I checked most of those don't work with both the USB and the Ethernet at the same time (get yourself a router like a real man!). No idea where you're going to find drivers either way, just wanted to see if I understood you.
Lets see if we can get this straight...

Are you trying to do the one on the top-left or the bottom-right?
The one on the bottom-right would require you to bridge the connection through it to the other modem.
actually im pretty sure they all do (i had 3 different modems now and they all worked with the usb and ethernet at the same time)
but for your problem, just hook up the usb while your connected via ethernet and it should search for drivers for it. (if not, use the cd it came with)
Every one I've ever looked at specifically said it will fail to function over both interfaces... My Motorola one sure as heck doesn't work with both. But again, USB modems are horrid little things anyway.
Top left.
Grrr, I suck at terminology.
The lil black thingy with the 6 or so lights :/
Thats what they told me too but I have been doing it for the last 2 or 3 years so :/
Also, I read somewhere that W7 isn't supporting the USB for my thingy because it doesn't have the drivers or whatever, something like that.
mmk, probably could check http://www.westell.com/technical-sup...l-support.html and see if you can find your model and revision. See if they have a driver for it. If not then you may be kinda screwed. Best bet would be then to get a hub or something and use that to connect your pc and xbox to the internet.
Yeah it really shouldn't be working on both USB and Ethernet at the same time... since a modem typically isn't a router (unless it IS a router deep-down inside with a modem component).
Here's why it doesn't work:
If Xbox.com gives updates to your modem...
Which device gets it?
... Unless your modem is assigning 2 external IP addresses, one for each... check your phone bill to make sure you're not getting billed for 2 IP addresses o.O
Well thats not the issue. Its worked for the last 3 years so I dont really care about that.
ya know?
Urg, weird complicated network setups for the loose! Just setup a normal network like the following:
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2253/setupm.jpg
Everything there is connected via Ethernet (which is far superior to USB for networking), except for the "Internet - Modem" line, which is generally a coaxial cable. Also, get a D-Link router.
Do what freelancer suggested. Making it more complicated than it has to be (eg. requiring USB and therefore drivers, etc.) only makes thing more complicated and increases the number of headaches you will get.
But I dont have a router, and besides, I am passed this issue.
Instead of opening another thread, I will ask my newest issue here k?
When I try to log on I get this error that says something like:
I realize my meddling and farting around in places I am not supposed to tweak led to this, but how do I fix that? Anyone have a Kernelbase.dll I could download for w7?Quote:
The Procedure Point RegDeleteValueW cannot be located within the something something kernelbase.dll
Would that even fix it?
