UPDATED (2x): OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Background
According to Dennis/UXB from HaloMaps, every single build of OpenSauce submitted to him has crashed during testing. To be sure that this is an isolated issue, or an issue with the actual submitted dll, I want your help.
The smartasses who "lead" CMT decided that one person's problems with unknown files under unknown testing conditions was enough to persuade them to not use OpenSauce. They refuse to acknowledge that there is no one except for Kornman, Shadow, me, p0lar, and Ctrl who have not the game go suicidal while OS is hooked into CE. We all beg to differ...
OpenSauce Testing
A clean build (d3d9.dll) of OpenSauce for Halo CE 1.08 is available for download right here: DOWNLOAD OS DOWNLOAD OS (CORRECT VERSION!) CAUTION: At the moment there is a report that this causes CE to not properly close. This has been reported only once. There has also been two cases of text disappearing.
THIS VERSION IS FOR HALO CE 1.08 ONLY. YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR GAME AND BE RUNNING A 1.08 EXECUTABLE. AGAIN, MAKE SURE YOU USE THE 1.08 EXE. IF YOU USE VERSION CHANGER, DOUBLE CHECK!! IF IT'S A CLEAN INSTALL, RUN HALOUPDATE.
To check Halo's version number: Right click haloce.exe > properties > details > "File version". The version should read 1.0.8.616.
This extension will change the version of Halo temporarily, appearing as 1.09. THIS IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. You will not see any servers while testing, but you can remove the dll when done and be back to normal. (or use version changer)
Additionally, if you have init.txt in your CE directory, DELETE, MOVE, OR RENAME IT before launching Halo. THE GAME WILL CRASH WITH INIT.TXT IN THE CE ROOT DIRECTORY!
Also, you must close Xfire to play the game.
If you happen to be one of the few who experiences a loss of the in-game chat text (that was previously working), download the latest DirectX 9 version and run the installer. Further information and the DirectX download is available here: http://www.modacity.net/forums/showt...968#post410968
The term "flawlessly" applies to the ability to run the game with the OpenSauce DLL without any bugs or crashing once the game is loaded. Doing what is necessary to get it running, such as removing/renaming a file or updating your game, does not affect if you are able to "flawlessly" run it, as long as it works.
Installation
Download the file and place it in your Halo Custom Edition directory, alongside haloce.exe. Open the game and just play. To make sure it is loaded, start a local game and type "gravity 0.001" into the console. If the gravity is affected, it is working. This release also supports multi-team vehicles, so if you want to get together with another person with OS, you can mess around and piss off other players who don't have it.
Please post here, regardless of whether it works or not, your DXdiag results. To do this, click Start > run > dxdiag > [Save All Information...] > open file > copy "System Information" like below
If it caused a problem, describe exactly what happened and the error you had. For instance, if CE will not load, or if you cannot change the gravity (no response/not loaded into memory).
Quote:
POSSIBLE ISSUES WITH OPENSAUCE
There are a couple of scenarios which have come to our attention since the start of the thread. If you run into a problem in your native testing environment, please check if your problem is similar to one below.
- Xfire is loaded in the background; causes Halo to crash on load. Close Xfire and launch Halo.
Halo gives the error that d3dx9_37.dll is missing. Download the dll to fix, check again.- init.txt is located in the CE folder. Delete, move, or rename init.txt.
- Chat text disappears; doesn't come back after removing d3d9.dll. Install latest version of DirectX 9.
If you have any of these issues and the provided fix solves the problem, please
mark that the game WORKS, but in your post include what you had to do to make it work.

Also state whether your operating system is 32 or 64-bit. DXdiag doesn't seem to show that. This will not only help prove they're full of shit, but it will help with the development of OS.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
There still is the problem of Dennis saying that OS crashes on his test machine. I would still like to know the root of this. Also, just for the record:

I would think that if you're running 64bit windows that it would say 64bit under DxDiag Version, unless there isn't a 64bit one yet.

I'm getting some useless 20 byte file when I download the RAR. What's up with that?

Sorry, I fixed the issue now. When clicking and dragging with FireFTP, it went into the wrong folder and then flipped out.

Does it work when you don't have the Open Sauce dll in your CE directory? Try downloading d3dx9_37 from the Internet, and placing in your CE directory.
Edit: Try the dll Bacon just linked to.

when i add d3dx9_37.dll to my CE folder, the game starts fine and OS works perfectly.

-edit2- tested using the version changer along with it, no issues.
-edit3- tested launching CE from steam w/ the ingame overlay, no issues.
-edit4- tested using xfire ingame, game does not load... must disable xfire ingame for CE (same as yelo)

that's because of xfire ingame, same thing happened with yelo and other d3d mods/hacks.

The Xfire issue is interesting. It crashes with OS, but with Triplehead, it Xfire just doesn't work in-game. I wonder why it is crashing, or I wonder why Triplehead didn't kill the game.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
EXCEPTION AT STARTUP
Using Non-default UI. Noticing a lot of crashes with non-default UIs, could this be a problem? I'm going to download the default UI and try again; see if it makes a difference.
Also, I had to close Xfire AND install the DLL in order to even make it to the UI (so it could exception on me).

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Seeing there's several missing d3dx9_37.dll errors, maybe it should be packaged with OS.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
New101 and English Mobster seem to be the only two that dont seem to have 2+ CPUs (Doesnt say in the info). And they both had problems. But I dont think the number of CPU is the problem.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
The game loads perfectly fine, but the "gravity 0.001" command in console gives me a "The requested function gravity cannot be executed now" error. The game exeptions on startup if run with the "-devmode" argument.

Fails: missing d3dx9_37.dll. Fixed: Downloaded dll.
Booted into Halo CE, windowed, console, devmode, with custom UI. No problems.
Played with low gravity in latest build of BCE for a while. Had an immense amount of fun.
Decided to set gravity to 0.0; worked for about 5 seconds and then Halo CE froze; had to kill with task manager.
Reproduced error by reloading and setting gravity to 0 again. Fix: just don't set gravity to 0?
Seems to me like it's stable SO LONG AS the map maker and user know what to do and what not to do.
e: Dang, I forgot to check, but I'm pretty sure having this prevents any other such mods I have from working, ie, I had the bloom mod, the dll to which I had to rename... So yeah, it would be a slight irritation if that's the case, but it's really not a big issue.

Works fine, only thing it did was say it had to close unexpectedly (which it didn't) and then lost connection to Xfire. I tried again and I didn't lose connection to Xfire this time. Using the Library UI.

Works perfectly.
Running 32 bit windows Vista, Cutom UI, all on custom maps. Everything worked great. Even messed around with the gravity for some lulz. Any other interesting features on that little DLL?

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
These errors have very simple explanations! D3DX files are no longer distributed with the DirectX run-time. Kornman is most likely using some text drawing functions, although I do not know for sure, haven't looked at it in a while. Only way to fix this problem is for the end user to download these files and place them in the system directory. Including d3dx files with this project would unreasonably increase the download size. Another option for KM is to use a different method other than using d3dx functions, there are other ways to draw. Also could use engine rendering. More information and downloads here: http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html.
As for the other problem with xfire, it's very simple problem. Xfire is also hooking Direct3D functions in the IDirect3dDevice9 interface: Release, Reset, and Present. There is some interference with KM's d3d9 wrapper and Xfire's hooks. Xfire also hooks 2 functions in DirectInput8, some functions in Winsock2, and some in User32 but I don't think those are the issue. d3d9 wrappers and xfire have always had issues since the beginning.
A simple fix is to disable Xfire in game, which stops it from hooking Halo. You can do this in Xfire's game settings. The other method would be to update the wrapper hook. Wrapping has many disadvantages, many which are quite obvious. Although a d3d9 wrapper is much more noob friendly, manual injection and engine VMT hooking is far superior. Since 64-biters have gotten this to work, OS shouldn't be the source of the problem as long as d3d9 is installed.
I could help with fixing it, but I'm sure KM is capable doing it himself!

On XP, I believe there is a way to save the Exception Data of which it notoriously Gathers. Try clicking the "View Details" linkish looking thing (IIRC) and see if it lets you.
On Vista its a little different. This difference actually made developing hacks like Yelo more time consuming to debug on my end as the amount of steps involved.
1) Control Panel->Problem Reports and Solutions->View problem history
2) Find HaloCE (or it may be the name of the dll, dx3d9.dll or w/e)
3) Right click->View problem details.
4) Copy to clipboard & pasta in your post

Omfg.....
I had 1.08 installed a while back, but then for machinima purposes I reverted it all to 1.07. I went through all the trouble of finding that damn mini-image, and it didn't even occur to me that 1.08 DOESN'T NEED A CD. -_- Fuck my life.
Back in a bit with a test with 1.08.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
For those of you using version changer, are you absolutely sure that you are using the 1.08 exe, not the 1.04 or 1.07 one? Sure, you can play 1.08 servers using the version changer and an out of date exe, but OS will still crash. You would need to do it backwards.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Reinstalled, updated to 1.08- works fine. Fuck my life.
On a side note, how do you enter commands? I'm trying to test an actual command to know if OS is working or just passively allowing the game to function. Unless I've totally forgotten how to use the console, you use devmode, then hit the ` key and up comes the little pink/purple letters. However, at the moment that key seems to do nothing at all, in either game mode. Help?

Make sure you put "-console" after the target for whatever shortcut you are using.

Didn't work . Used Original UI , Yoyo UI, Library UI, Bacons UI. I switched between the normal Strings.dll and the Versionchanger strings.dll.. When i removed the OS it worked again like it normally should.

Try using this build. I compiled the dll that Jcap linked to in the main post, and apparently I compiled in a debug config which could fuck things up for some people. So anybody who has had a problem, try using this build.

I did NOT have a custom ui but I DID have ONLY custom maps being used (not default maps), so I can confirm that that is not a problem.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
I think you need to put Shadow's DLL into your system 32 folder, then run Halo CE in XP compatibility mode.
Maybe it is just me, but that DLL reminds me of one I had to use to get Dark Basic to work on W7, and that's how I got it working.
I may be wrong though.

Yeah, OS crashes my Sapien too. I fixed it by just removing the d3d9.dll file out of the halo custom edition folder.

System 32? Not your CE folder?
I'll try it...
E: OK. Halo's running, but I can't open the console. I hit ~ and nothing appears, plus I can still move, etc. I'm going to enable devmode and try it again.
EE: Console appeared, but the gravity command didn't work. Going to put d3d9 in CE folder, try again.
EEE: Exception. I'm going to try Windows 98 compatibility like I have to for Sapien. Also, Sapien doesn't work.
EEEE: Exception. Trying Safe Mode.
EEEEE: Exception.
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Sapien also relies on d3d9.dll. By default, a program searches the corresponding directory path for the dll files, so they are loaded first. If they are not found, the system directory is searched.
Sapien is loading OS because it needs to load the d3d9 library, when it was not programmed to work with Sapien. Something in the code is making it crash.
I can only hope my help is at least taken into consideration.

Well, unless you wanna do a big hack job, the only logical way to fix it, is to not use a proxy dll for the Direct3D interface. This method for OS is irrational and should consider being changed for the better. There are no perks other than it being a noob-friendly drag into the Halo folder.
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Other than critize current methodologies, you can present a working alternative. I know how to fix the sapien issues while keeping the dll, but never had the problem during development since my installations are split.
I've already tried modifying the v1.08 exe but it still verifys it's integrity as with all previous versions (except v1.00). I made automations for modifying the various exes (hek, haloce, dedi) to execute custom code and load a Yelo module. The automations are internal though, so thats just more things I have to include in the OS codebase (and the hek poritions are closed anyway).
With a dll hook you maintain the abstraction from the code of which is being modified. If I didn't use a dll hook, then I would have to also release a modified EXE. Great, now a app plus a dll bullet on Arteen's list. For haloce *and* dedi. This also makes it somewhat more of a hassel with version targeting. Its just more modifications to keep track of and update.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
It would be cool if OS would work with Sapien, since Sapien only compiles the default script functions.
You could have like a space map. Where you start inside a base, then you move to the airlocks. And a trigger point is there, so when you exit the airlocks to the outside, you jump around as though you were in space and had less gravity.
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Hehe, I would love to, but I am only throwing this on your table as a good alternative. As picky as you are with your code, please keep an open mind and just think about it.
The method I want you to float your mind around is dll injection. Not only can you inject the dll whenever you want, but you can also eject it whenever you want without having risk of crashing Halo because it would no longer have a loaded d3d9 module to use. This will also make it easier to debug and test code, without having to keep opening and closing Halo to load the dll over and over. External injection can also be very noob friendly, just like a proxy would. It can be as simple as opening an executable that has no interface controls and loads it automatically when it finds the game. Building your own custom dll injector sounds awesome anyway, to me. You brought up the point of modifying Halos executable code to load your dll, but this is not necessary since injection from an external source is possible without needing to touch Halo's code. Therefor there would be no need to lug around patched executables, only an injector and your dll.
As far as changes to your own dll code, it would be significantly small and very little work. There are many different ways to hook Direct3D, but I will propose what I think is the most logical method in this situation, which would have to be VMT pointer modifications. Instead of detouring or creating an old fashioned jmp hook, you just replace Halo's VMT pointers with the addresses of your own functions. This has some advantages. The return can be a call to the original d3d9 function, so programs like xfire, gamecam, fraps, gcc can all still be hooked and running properly. Also, unhooking is just as easy as hooking and you don't have to unwrap the entire interface, only hook and unhook individual functions freely. There is a lot more flexibility here and the only thing you will need to keep track of is Halo's device pointer, which is global and static, but I'm not sure if it changes between CE versions or not. I bet you already have the version checking code, so you would just need to add this variable under that check. You could also pattern scan for the CreateDevice call, which returns the device pointer and grab the address from a relative offset, so a version check is not even needed. Alternately a less viable method is to inject immediately when Halo starts and hijack Direct3dCreate9 and then CreateDevice, but that shouldn't be necessary.
There are some downsides to this method, just like any method, but I think it's more reasonable than the current one. You will have to lug an injector around, but this is not a bad thing. It can be used universally to inject any dll into any process and only needs to be downloaded once. Injectors are all over the place, so if one does not work, there is one that will, they all have the same basic method of entry. So, like I said, keep an open mind as will I. I didn't bash your method to break your heart, but as constructive criticism to think about other possibilities. There seems to be many problems hovering around this proxy method and I am just offering my advice and will help where I can.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Would modified content files affect how it runs? I'm sure many people here use that old CMT chat box or one of the many variants on Halomaps.org
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Depends on the "modified content." For the most part, no. Custom UIs, custom chatbox, and the version changer should not (and appear not to) crash the game. They're completely separate.
However, a modified exe will more than likely crash the game (if you can even get the game to start without OS). Strings.dll I'm not entirely sure about, but I wouldn't chance any foreign ones anyway. Besides, altering the code of those and redistributing them violates the DMCA.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Umm I can't even get Halo CE to load in the first place :/.
This is after a few months of not playing/starting it at all.

Dll injection wouldn't work with how Yelo works. Yelo has to process the game's code before it actually starts running any of its subsystems. There isn't a sure bet way of injecting before any of these systems become initialized to my knowledge.
Dll injection still runs the risk of crashing the game as much as a dll hook as its still the same code being ran. So if the code in a dll hook crashes the game, so will one which is just injected. If I wanted to support unloading the DLL, I would also have to write rollback functions to turn the game back into its original state.
Dll injection is invaisive compared to a behind the scenes dll hook. The user has to run an extra step to get the extension running. Anytime you increase the amount of steps a user must perform, you increase the complexity. Someone could easily forget to load it.
VMT modification only helps in the DX area. However, if I modify the DX vtables, then any hooks from other apps (xfire) are rendered null and could potentially crash due to some data not being gathered.
The only problem associated with the dx hook is with sapien, and thats only if they have the HEK installed to their game directory. Like I said earlier, I know how to adjust for this.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Okay, so I got Open sauce to work.
Xfire didn't want to work with me when Open Sauce was on so there went that.
And second, when trying to join games, I can't join any others, because there aren't any displayed. Remove Open Sauce from the picture and it's fine.

I see dx initialization ending with Yelo components initialization. Could you please explain the components a bit and how they work? Like what is it doing exactly? All these macros and typedefs are giving me a headache and I can't figure out what's going on where. I don't understand why Yelo has to initialize before Halo does, please explain so I know.
Um, all the crashes posted here are being related back to the dx hook. If it was updated or changed, there would be none, regardless of whether or not you changed any code other than the DX stuff.
Injection is not complex at all, as I explained it is very user friendly. The only extra step is opening an executable and possibly a press of a button. We are all capable of double clicking our browser icons to get to the web, so I don't see how this is much of a compared challenge. Ejecting is also very simple with a single API call, of course with a few simple checks to make sure the thread exits safely. I don't really understand your source very well, which is probably why I don't see where you are coming from and why you are being so defensive about your stuff here. If there is something that I don't seem to understand, please share! I'm not trying to be ignorant, I really would like information.
Last thing, you are not correct about vmt. I wasn't talking about modifying d3d9 module vtable. Halo has it's own device and vmt to d3d9. The method doesn't require even touching d3d9 module. All you are doing is replacing Halo's vtable pointers, so it's essentially an engine hook. So, for example let's assume Halo comes along to a Reset call, because I changed the screen resolution and let's assume I have replaced Halo's vTable Reset function pointer with my own Reset function. Well, Halo loads up ITS device pointer, then loads up the Reset pointer from ITS vTable(which is in the halo.exe space btw). It calls our Reset function, which returns by calling the original Reset function in the d3d9.dll module. Xfire has the original Reset hooked, so it must jmp to Xfires function, which returns to the original again and continues on it's normal path. There is no risk of crashing here, because Xfire and other d3d hooks do not mess with the games' device, only the d3d module. Replacing d3d9 module vTable pointers would not do anything, unless they were replaced before the game device was created, there would be no effect.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
The components macros are just there to cleanly layout the function points to the initializer and disposer for each component. There are a couple variants of the macro since some components aren't for client builds or aren't for dedi builds, or should only be used in debug-only builds of the code. Using macros hides the component list's data initialization. Like said, some components don't run under certain conditions (ie dx is not under dedi), so instead of checking what build type is being used for each component, I only do it once at the macro definitions.
I don't mean to sound crude, but macros aren't really that hard to comprehend. Just look at the macro's definition and visualize replacing the macro's argument instances with what are passed to it when the macro is used. Its no different from learning how a function in source code works. Just with a macro, you can easily inline code statements. The same can't be done with inline functions as the function arguments are strict types and can't be reused and retyped. Where I only use one argument for the component macro, which then expands into a string, and then two function pointers, I would have to manually type out all three. Why would I do such a thing when I can have the preprocessor do it for me and also provide a mark up of whats going on while hiding the details?
The only halo related problems with the dx hook is with sapien. Xfire is third party.
And as I explained, using injection creates an extra step for the user. Note how CMT was arguing that just by having an extra dll that it creates a complexity with the user, even though it can be handled by an installer.
The code has to be ran before halo's does due to which code it modifies (at least in Update 2). If I wanted to do a late-bind injection I would have to go about disposing of most of the game resources, patching the code, then re-initializing the resources again. That means more code to write and more assembly to reverse equaling more time I have to spend on implementation details when I already have one that works and doesn't require user intervention.
Halo was written in C, there are no vtables in it's code. The device pointer they have is a pointer to what DX gives them, so you're not modifying halo's "vtable" entry for Reset and such as you're still modifying DX's memory. Using a DX dll hook, modification is implicit (plus all C++ code, no assembly tricks) as its just a interface proxy. Using your idea, I would have to create the patch code myself which allows more errors to be introduced and required debugging. I try working smarter, not harder without being too lazy in the process.
The bloom program and xfire are just convenience programs, they don't directly affect map development (xfire can be argued since some like to do these so called broadcasts). I'm not going to sit down and rewrite my code which has already been tested and works when I can be writing new code that end users can enjoy and potential OS developers can use.

Got it running and working ( gravity command at least worked) by using a dll injector. I just injected the d3d9.dll after HaloCE started. For some odd reason it put Halo back to 1.00.09.0616.

Why am I getting a "Requested Function gravity could not be executed now" error in console? I have the dll loaded... Still crashing if I don't use an injector though:

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Could it be the strings version?or does that matter..My strings version is 1.0.0.1 ..That shouldnt matter right?
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
I believe strings.dll always reads that version, regardless of the update. However, the strings.dll is different with each update. Oh well.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
So i could basicly do like De lux to get it working.. But when the official build is realesed, Will i need to it that way always?
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Hopefully you won't have to. I seems like it's working, but something is happening to CE while loading it which is causing the game to crash.
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Could it be a other dll interfering the OS dll to work properly with halo?
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Got it working, fresh install on fresh install of Windows 7 (Build 7137).
-
Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
Freelancer, there has to be something in common that was interfering on both your laptop and desktop when you had the problem. Is there anything you can think of?
If you don't mind, can you copy the clean install of CE from Windows 7 to your other installation of Windows which CE didn't work on? Then we can isolate if it is something related to the game.

I've had Rec0's app installed on both boxes, but I replaced all the changed files with original 1.08 ones when I tried to test OS... No idea what else it could have been... My Vista installation never had Rec0's app installed, yet it refused to boot Halo at all with OS applied. However, I've had the Vista installation for quite a long time so there's most likely SOMETHING I'm forgetting...
I'll copy my install and try it out in a bit.
P.s. On my most recent (successful attempt) it was on Windows 7 build 7137, using the DXTweaker camofix.

Re: OpenSauce and Halo CE Crashing *PLEASE TEST FOR FEEDBACK*
I have JUST BARELY reinstalled CE only about 2 weeks ago due to some files becoming corrupted by mistake when I was trying to work with Open Sauce (before I tried this release, I was working independently). I tried to run this build of OS with that clean install, so it MUST be something either about my computer or the game itself.
Everything on this computer is ancient, save the video card and RAM. I got the damn thing in 2004 when it was on sale at Wal-Mart, and updated my video card in late 2007 (OK, so maybe it is ancient). My RAM was installed just this January. I believe it has a single-core processor, not a dual like most around here, but I need to run Sapien in Windows 98 compatibility still (no idea why).
If it helps any, I am NOT running CE from my C: drive. I'm running it from a K: portable drive. I move around a lot from computer to computer, so putting CE on a single drive helps me keep my mapping projects and whatnot in one spot. I DO have the registry files pointing to the K drive install, on this computer at least.
