[WIP] Remnant (working title)
As my 2,000th post here on Modacity, I'd like to announce my first map in nearly three years.
Remnant is a spiritual successor to Separated. As such, it will feature the new and much improved "Draco II", two opposing beam towers, and just generally be set on a chunk of the destroyed Installation 04.
To finish this project, I'm going to admit my own inabilities here at the beginning and request all the help I can get. It is my intention to do all the tagging and designing, but I'd like help with the actual terrain modeling and Forerunner structure building... and texturing... and UVing... and I think that's it.
This is my basic layout for Remnant:

Note the primary features include:
- The edge of Installation 04
- A layer of the framing pieces seen in Halo 3
- Two beam emitters (maybe to scale?)
- A tunnel a la the tank tunnels in AotCR (not to scale)
- Some cliffs
- The Dracos (not to scale)
- A river
I hope to make the map quite long, but not Hugeass or Coldsnap-sized, just big enough to fit the Dracos.
I'm recruiting people now to help out, so if you're interested, let me know.

How close to the concept do the beam towers need to be, or are those just generic towers for the purposes of indicating the the general idea? I was in the process of adding Infinity-ish bases to the towers I made for Waypoint, if you want to use those.

And you say this isn't going to be the size of Coldsnap?
Coldsnap's flags are ~3 km from each other. That's about 2 miles.

Really all anyone is going to want to do is fly the new Draco around.
I can help you by modeling forerunner structures or creating concept images, but I think you'd really be better off if you made the entire maparound the idea of people using the Draco and nothing else, because that's what's going to happen.
I think you should pick some kind of fighter aircraft that teammates could assist their team's Draco in, (Like the ones you had in that asis map you stopped making) and then make a gametype where you can't hold the flag and drive a vehicle (while riding passenger still works,) and then have people use the Dracos as the way to cap between two floating platforms with tons of interesting forerunner structures punctuating the airspace in between. Tbh.

I said 1-2 miles, and it'll probably be closer to 1.

Hunter modeled a hornet, ask him for it. you'd have to skin and tag it of course. also, I believe nuggetwarmer/killa/h3mt has one.

Could an Electrostatic Pulse mine be possible? (EPM)
Essentially a motion sensitive mine that would cause high damage to shields and some explosive damage, weakening enemies?

Use that if you want ^ But you would have to get it unwrapped, tagged, textured and animated.

The only problem I see, is that like, the edge of the ring would be a lot taller... Right? I mean, it would reach past the cloud layer. I demand custom skybox. : )
Edit: Shi- I really need to get the interior of the Draco-II modeled. : /

We're going to have break the top and bottom off, so to speak.
I'd like a more high-quality version of the space skybox, combined with the rotation seen in Array (though probably slowed down a bit...)

What is the Draco? I've seen the model you made, but everyone keeps referring to it as if they all know something about it. Looks like a basic map, GL.

After my brief stint in being a Linux developer, I started doing stuff here full-time. End result was hundreds of more posts.
FreedomFighter7: Go find the map "Separated" (as in, the correct spelling) on HaloMaps. You'll see exactly what a Draco is.

you have pretty much learnt to Unwrap, so DIY?, As for texturing it, read that feckin 'Hard Surface texture tutorial for all next gen kids to abuse' and have an attempt yourself :D
Also map concept looks awfully like Higuys cliff edge map-forerunner exterior but cool none the less

I think DEE was set to unwrap it for H3MT, if he has not yet unwrapped it then I will do it. That is if Bacon wants to use it.

Up to you. Personally I don't want a ripped texture on it, or screen capped, but its up to bacon. Hit me up on AIM if you want the max file, it was modelled in max 8 btw.

Awesome, I find that 3ds version the best for working with.
But hardest to find a copy of :S
I guess I'll use a trial until I can find a copy of max8 to buy.
If someone gets a texture, I'll try to get it unwrapped.
Im ok at making textures, just mostly ground texturing and such though :S

Dunno where you are going to get the texture from, Dee doesn't have it. ZTeam won't give out retail stuff, which is fair enough Lol. Id prefer someone to texture it.
Maybe ScoobyDoo? I will try and not fuck up this time. Or Disaster?

In light of the "everyone is just going to want to use the new Draco" comment, I've decided to scrap the idea of a mere 1 mile map and would like to consider a five mile map - plenty of space for the Dracos. It will probably require my cliping distance extender for best results.

i think for scenery you should include a crashed drc-I somewhere on the map, just reworked so it has a big gaping hole in the side to give a feeling that like a covenant plasma cannon (the ones on their ships) tore a hole in it
but cant wait, and i know its not much but that ODST server i have access to the FTP and shit, so i can host it if needed and to test

Yep, there it is.
The focal point of the map is the DRC-II, so I can't just be throwing in every new vehicle and turret. The Wolverine may be good simply because it's anti-air, and the hornet is a must because the Firefly sucks and I just made it to have something in the back (I didn't know about the Wasp at the time).
