[Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
since i've made a few of these now, i'll just post them all here in one thread
tired of ttyping out rendersettings to people.
made this:
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t...e_settings.jpg
perfectly round, complex geometry tut.
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t.../scopetut1.jpg
floater aligned to surface tut.
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/t...ut-floater.jpg
more floater related, evenly distributed dents.

(ps, could a mod change the thread icon to a little orange cuby-thingy, thanks!)
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
So wait, the inset hasn't actually been cut into the larger geometry, it's actually lying on top of it?
ie, starting with a surface:
_________________
instead of cutting it in like this:
______......_______
..........\__/
you're overlaying it like this:
______\__/_______
?? Or am I missing something? Because it seems like the real difficulty of doing something like this is cutting it into the larger mesh.
e: cool technique on the scope, though. I hadn't thought of doing it that way.
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
yes, it's floating above the mesh, hence the word 'floaters'.
i'll put that piece of the model up here in 3ds and obj.
edit:
save this image to your computer and open it with winrar.
had to embed it in an image, because i don't have an actual filehost available :D
anyone, feel free to host it somewhere properly lol.

Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
I don't have winrar (I use linux). Is there actually a file embedded in that jpeg? :S
Perhaps somebody could upload that file for me so I can see what neuro's talking about?
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
Neuro, I get subd modeling, but whenever I set up a projection it really never works for me. Can you do a video tutorial that teaches normal mapping from a high to low poly object from the ground up and WHY you click certain buttons and such. Doesn't need to be spectacular, just a simple object.

Can you explain your problem?
IE: Post the normal map you get from the failed projection.
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
well at the moment, my computer is running in software-mode, because my gfx card fried.
i verymuch doubt i'll be able to record anything in it's current state.
won't receive new computer for a week, so i can't make a baking tut right now.
but i can analyse your problem, what disaster said, post the normalmap of your failed projection, and preferredly also a printscreen of said projection with the cage applied.
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
*update* added 'dents' tutorial
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
Neuro you still have a copy of the tutorials as it looks like they've been deleted.
E:
Never mind found em on your photobucket.
Re: [Tutorial] Neuro's minituts
oh you're right, i need to update the links.
edit: links fixed!
