[GALLERY] In Which ExAm Draws Things You May Find Visually Appealing
New stuff at the top
More fan bullshit BECAUSE I HAVE NO ORIGINAL IDEAS

------
MS Paint Adventures-related pieces of fan-stuff. Also, there's a Python reference and a chainsaw brand pun.
Things you need to know to understand this image:
-Blood color for these characters is unique to each of them, and matches the zodiac sign on their shirts.
-The first one takes place after a chainsaw amputation in the story, which is actually in the guy's best interest.
-Characters carry a specific variety of weapon that they stick with throughout the comic.
-You don't meet these people until very late in the story, and they're aliens.

I recommend you start reading the comic. It looks like a daunting task, but the story is mostly told through images without a lot of text, with the exception of infrequent recaps and Pesterlogs.
And if you dismiss it outright as "childish", I will hoist you into the air and do some kind of fucking backflip-suplex while I jam your upper torso into the nearest refuse receptacle, and then advise you to grow up and forever renounce that distinction while you flail your limbs about like some kind of fucking autistic octopus stuck in a rusty soup can. Plus, the story contains potentially hazardous shenanigans and swearing. Shenanigans! How can you resist?
YOU FUCKING CAN'T, THAT'S HOW. Go read that shit.

I started an Adventure of my own. (which is dead now, but still worth a read despite its brevity)

Sketchy drawing I did in a sort of stream of consciousness fashion. Re-acquiring my sense of perspective and proportion that I've forgotten over the last year

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
Not yet, I'm trying to find the will to actually sit down and focus on finishing a project for once. I worked on that image yesterday, after not touching it for a week.

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
I think you were asking about shading before- use brush blending and opacity.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
I have no idea what that means. For that apricot I used a brush with opacity variation based on pen pressure, if that clarifies anything.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
I dont know if this works, but would it be possible to shade it all and then just use the blur tool to make it smooth? =o
Looks nice though. =)

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
Not if you want defined shapes. simply blurring makes a jagged edge between the lighted area (one color) and the shadows (another). Blur can be used for some shadows but for important objects its better to start with a large brush and work your way down, using smaller and smaller brushes to fill in the inbetween colors that make the trainsition from light to shadow.

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
guys. what is brush blending.

Or if it's appropriate... layer effects :p

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
If I want smooth transitions then I just use a large soft brush with a low opacity and apply colours to my liking.
-
Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
I use the gradient tool >.>

Look at the toolbar when using the brush tool and you will see the same list of blending techniques that are used for layers. Then just mess around with the colors and different techniques.
Using a white or lighter color opacity controlled by pen pressure usually get better results anyway though. You can also try color fading in the brush settings menu.

AAAAAAAAARGHHHHHH
The nib on my bamboo pen SCRATCHED THE FUCKING TABLET SURFACE. Like a fucking GOUGE. I need to return it. No updates to this one for a week, maybe more, while I wait for a replacement. I don't even know how the fuck it manage to get scratched. Improperly molded nib? I don't even fucking know.

buy the felt nibs if they didnt come with it for whatever reason. I just bought a pack of 10 after the one it shipped with got too worn (it wears out much faster) and then my tablet broke. Apparently water got on it somehow( which is impossible) and I got them to fix it for free when it was supposed to be $150.
You can always take off the surface and go buy a sheet of plastic and apoxy it on there.

Re: [GALLERY] Good God, ExAm can't find his gallery thread so he made a new one
I don't think you can remove the Wacom Bamboo's surface. Also, replacement RMA'd and shipped already.

I am totally unfamiliar with ballpoint pen as a medium, by the way.

Re: [GALLERY] In Which ExAm Draws Things You May Find Visually Appealing
It can yield some very impressive results. I don't like using pens of any sort because they glide way too easily on the paper. I need resistance.
I'm trying to figure out what the hell that middle picture is: a cliff face with a root sticking out? I like it.
-
Re: [GALLERY] In Which ExAm Draws Things You May Find Visually Appealing
I don't know what the hell it is either. Also, water-based rollerball pens tend to have a more scratchy feeling on paper. Fountain pens even more so. I suggest one of the two.
-
Re: [GALLERY] In Which ExAm Draws Things You May Find Visually Appealing
I have a set of good fountain pens...still glides very well. I'll probably just stick with my pencils and charcoal.

Sketch paper isn't rough enough?
Post moar pictures, less talk of my drawing habits :O. This is your thread, after all, and I don't want to look like I'm hijacking it.
