Post your skin, I'm guessing you've got bits in the wrong place or it just didn't upload properly.
I've been working on a fortress for the last month of so, also got a lava tower on the other end of the map (which is almost 100mb now).

ALSO: Worked out what was wrong with your skin:
Minecraft doesn't support partial transparencies - anything less than alpha:255 results in minecraft rendering it transparent (with the exception of slimes). You had some hidden transparencies in your skin (and so did the one I downloaded from 4chan a while back).

(I think whoever made the skin didn't realise that what was meant to be his under-chin beard was at the back of his head so I fixed that too ;))

Had some good fun on the AWOL server. Also for multiplayer if you set difficulty to peaceful, your health will regenerate. Helps seeing as there aren't any mobs around to farm food from.
Type /iron to get 4 bars of iron thrown in front of you.

Anyway, I've been debating whether to pick this game up or not - it looks really good, and i've watched so many videos; the infdev (now alpha -/game) looks so fun as well, but creepers and skeletons would prob make me scream every time i saw them haha.

Check the minefcraft forums modding section for a ton of skins cool skins:
Mario, SNES Zelda (one of the best skins out there), MM's moon, hi-res skins, etc.
I use this one personally but.
Only the terrain and mob skins but, not a fan of the UI.

yeah i bought the alpha version a week ago. iv been kind of busy with summer work (because i procrastinate like an asshole), but iv put a few hours into this game and love it. there is a shitload of stuff you can do here. in addition to crafting things like boats and doors, you can find this stuff called redstone and actually set up circuit boards with logic gates by placing the redstone stuff on the ground in a pattern. for example if a monster steps on a pressure plate or something, TNT goes off and kills it. thats really difficult to set up though from what i understand.
nontheless, if youre on the fence about this game, dont let the graphics throw you off. when i saw it at first, i thought "what the hell, this game looks bad". once i actually started to see the attention to details though, i really got into it.
also, it costs 10 euros right now in its alpha stage (which is about $13 US), but when it goes to beta its going to be2015 euros. it does have multiplayer too, but its really buggy right now and some stuff hasnt been implemented yet. the guy whos making this says hes going to do a ton more with it in the future though, so for 13 bucks this is a good buy imo.
E: going to be 15 euros at beta, not 20. my bad.
Shame Notch has been too busy being an INDY CELEBRITY to update the game much the last few weeks -_-

No hacks involved on this, other than swapping groups of 8 coal/64 cobblestone and 8 coal/64 sand out for 64 stone and 64 glass in MineEdit because fuck smelting times.
Only thing haxed on my server is the underground city and the massive bridge.
