Currently there is an initiative on the ballet to legalize the cultivation and sale of marijuana for licensed shops, and up to posession of up to 1 oz cannabis, 16 oz cannabis-infused solids, and 72 oz cannabis-infused liquids for persons over 21. The law also puts into effect a 5 mg limit active THC for DUID for persons over 21, and 0.00 mg limit for under.
Discuss.

So out of curiosity, have there been any studies published by the state looking at the economic potential? IE, would it be easy money to move over there, get license, ???, profit?

Re: I-502 - WA initiative to legalize the sale and possession of marijuana
It would not be easy money, for when the product becomes legalized, the markup disappears. The market would become dominated by farmers with acres of land and the ability to meet large demand, same as tobacco. Without bulk production, you'd see no profit. The only reason cannabis is available now at $10-20 a gram is because of its illegality, not because it's a particularly difficult plant to grow.

If this was on the same 'legalize potz' thing on the same long form as the presidential election, then I already voted for it. Was my last good deed as a WA resident :p. Well, that and not voting for either Rmoney or Obamaroma.

It's still illegal under federal law.
Alcohol prohibition in the 30s ended the exact same way when New York gave the finger to the feds.

Technically, if there is a Federal law regarding something, it is THE law and State laws can only refine them down.
That said, the only reason that works is because the Federal Government will with-hold grant money that is to be allocated to the states if those states don't follow the rules. The state governments really, really want that money and so they comply. If a state is doing something that threatens the integrity (lol, integrity in America) of the Federal government and the nation, they send in the troops.

From what I understand, Obama is probably pretty pro legalization. So yeah, I doubt anything will come of it.
