Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
Hello, friends.
It's about time for discussion to pick up regarding the upcoming Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta, included within the soon-to-be-released Master Chief Collection.
Today we received our first glimpse of gameplay changes, in the form of ADS (aim-down-sights) shooting with at least one weapon (which appears to be Halo's old staple the Battle Rifle). We also see the return of sprinting, a contentious gameplay element which, while compensated for by temporarily removing the ability to use weapons, introduces complications to designing multiplayer maps which serve classic Halo gameplay philosophies of timing and map control.
As most of us already know, bullet spread has been with us since the original Halo, if less visible, making Halo 4's emphasized reticle bloom an almost non-issue. That said, I think the introduction of ADS poses a secondary issue, in that, if we assume that Halo 5 behaves like its contemporaries, ADS will inhibit speed of movement, further exacerbating movement changes introduced by sprinting.
What are your thoughts on the new changes to gameplay? Look forward to more discussion in the coming weeks as more information surfaces.

UPDATE: It didn't take long for the web-wide outcry to reach 343, who have commented on the situation.

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
it's no longer halo. when you have to add collision blockers to a map that didn't have them to keep a map working, gameplay has changed enough that it's no longer the same game.

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
I was planning to buy an Xbox One and the MCC, but now I'm thinking I'm going to have to wait until I can get a used copy. I'd rather skip out on the beta and be a conscientious observer than give 343 any honest dev money.

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
Plan to buy a gaming PC instead, this geration of consoles has proved how horrible they are on multiple levels... Hardware being significantly more lackluster than previous generation, games offering no significant graphical improvements, marketing building up massive hype for mediocre games... It's not worth it at all anymore. Build yourself a cheap-mid range gaming PC for $600 - $1500 insite a mini-itx steam machine type chassis (I recommend the Silverstone Raven RVZ01) and get an all-around better experience.

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
stupid medals
stupid sounds
stupid lens flares
stupid giant bloom effects
stupid cutscenes
movement is kind of cool but not really halo
was ADS ever really necessary in a game where hipfiring is basically perfectly accurate?
ohh hey the health bar is back
this franchise is just selling from name brand at this point.

Sounds are still halo
Not as many lens flares as you claim
Same goes with bloom effects
There wasn't a single cutscene in the beta
Movement still feels exactly like halo
ADS was a nice addition
Yes, yes health is back
This forum is hanging on by the elitist pricks who want vanilla halo and nothing more. Played the beta till I was Onyx, had an absolute blast and the game just felt "right". Im excited for the full game.

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
I do like that they added a visual for the health recharge cooldown, to let you know precisely when you stop saying "ohshitohshitohsit" over and over

Re: Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta
I don't get this game. Since when was Halo about 4v4 MLG Pro snipez? I recall that to damn near everyone Halo 1-3 was about 8v8 large map vehicular combat.

If we're elitist pricks then you're just a plebian scrub who wants Halo: Unreal Tournament 2015: Tribes (Day One Edition)

Funny you say that, because Halo 4 felt more like Halo than Halo 2 or 3 ever did.
Also, WTF is wrong with the plasma sword in that vid, m00kz. It's hideous.

The new weapon designs are fucking awful
