The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
Because it's the only Source-based game I play and I wanna play with my peeps, yo!
I play on about 3 servers, which I don't have the IPs of right now. One is a Zombie Mod server (which is more fun than the real thing, IMHO) and two are plain old CSS servers.
If anyone still plays (lawl) and wants to get groups going, this is the place to post IPs and server info. When are you going to play? What are the terms? Are any weapons restricted? Is it a gungame? Deathmatch? Zombie mod? RPG? Stuff like that.
DO IT FOOLS.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
OMG you are awesome! You beat me to making this thread. I currently only play on one of my old servers, a slaughterhouse server. I'll get the IP later.
I'd really like to know the IP of that ZM server because I've been turned off by most since my favourite one shut down mid last year.
-
Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
Ew, TF2 is much better.
I tried playing this for a while with bots. It seemed okay, but extremely luck based. You spawn, run out in some random path, see an enemy, shoot them in the head, and either you die or they die. Repeat until round ends, then repeat until map change. Not really all that fun. Of course, I'm that some people can enjoy seeing who can react first to someone coming into your sight and aiming for the head first... but I'd prefer the tactics and unique weapons of TF2.

Remind me on Friday when I get home, I can post the server straight away. Do keep in mind, it is an EAST COAST server that plays with upwards of 50 people. So if you have any sort of shitty internet, this probably isn't the server for you D:
But I am rather popular on that particular server (gee, wonder why, TITS) and I think it's one of the friendlier ones I've been to. :)
Ramble ramble, I'll get you the IP on Friday.

I also have the orange box and TF2 is my main game but my video drivers have been giving me hell and i still can't get them to work so I'm stuck with a shit GeForce 7300GT for the next little while. I like TF2 better but you can't beat the ZMs on CS:S. OMG imagine TF2 ZOmbie mods lmao.

Haha, I live in the GTA(greater toronto area) and I can play servers from Texas with 64 ppl no problem. My ping is usually 30-55ms and I'm using Wireless-B lmao.
My internet is pretty fast so don't worry.

CS:S doesn't really begin to be fun until you learn how to aim and the layout of the popular maps. It's not really a 'jump-in and kick-ass!' kind of game. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...mot-eng101.gif

I've been too busy mapping to play CSS in a long time >___>
I might be able to play some rounds with people on Friday. I suck balls at this game though.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
My s#itty graphics card only gets 13 FPS in CS:S. And it only runs in windowed at really low resolution. It's like watching a small boxy blur in stop motion with a webcam.

I vote we should have our own cs:s server.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
100 tic is, from what ive read, not only detrimental to performance for a 24 man server, but isn't even possible with a windows server.
not 100% sure, but i have it at 66 right now, with high fps.
-
Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
i upped the maxplayers to 40, well see how that goes.
i doubt the server will ever even have more than 10 players in it anyway so meh.

lies, i had them both running at 100 tick when i 1st set them up, and they ran fine.
tbh, the only reason i went to 66 tick, is because of what i read on srcds website.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
Out of all the people I talk to that have played CS:S, I haven't found one that didn't get addicted to Zombie maps at one point, me included. If only I didn't get "Internal Driver Error in IDirect3D9," "failed to lock index buffer in xx," "The memory at 00xxxx could not be 'read,'" "hl2.exe has caused an error and will now be closed," CS:S freezing, going to black screen, BSOD with " Infinite Loop" error, among others every other time I go to a zm_ map. :(

My computer does that often... it could be because you don't have the correct version of DirectX (DX10), but the problem is more likely your video card burning up. Try updating your drivers if you haven't done so already.
-
Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
Trust me, I've tried every possible solution to solve this, and I've gotten this error for a year and a half. My new card does support DX10, but I have DX9.0c since I don't have/will not get Vista. I have an 8600gt now, and my old card was a 6100. Also, I usually get the error before the server can even come up; 95% of my errors happen on the server loading screen rather than in-game, so I don't know how it could be overheating. I've updated video card drivers, BIOS, etc. nothing has worked...although I may have found the problem recently, I can't figure out how to fix it. I probably have more than one video card driver installed, but I don't know how to get rid of the extra ones, or all of them for that matter, considering I re-install the newest driver afterwards. I've tried going into Safe Mode, but that just fucks up my computer (freezing) and when I finally got Safe Mode to work after 2 hours, it didn't help me one bit to deleting the extra drivers.

I think the newest version of DirectX for XP users is 9.0c, so if you have that I have no idea. Rumor has it they're making a DX10 for XP... I hope. :P
(EDIT: http://www.technospot.net/blogs/down...-alky-project/ try this, tell me if it works)
And the same thing happens to me, but it happens less often now, I don't know what I did. The computer I play CSS on has a shitty vid card (I don't know what it is though--my mom built it) and it overheats a lot so it gives me that error. But I know the IDirect3D is a problem of DirectX. :P

If you join an empty ZM server, you'll PROBABLY be put in with bots... at least, that's how a typical CSS server works.
I don't know about respawning as human though. With bots and you as a zombie, I'm sure a round wouldn't be hard to complete. :P

Yeah, I think CS:S is the most competitive online game out there. The hardest of the hardcore play it and if you don't, well we don't call you true FPS gamers then :p It doesn't matter if you suck. TBH, I can't say that I enjoy playing it sometimes but I like to converse with people while playing. That is one of the reasons why I choose to play Source online games, for the integrated voice chat.
Playing and talking to you guys will be a great experience by default for me :)

That's why I like zombie mod. It's a lot less serious than plain CSS, and people are a lot more personable and chatty. It's good to be social on that game because it's really a necessity. Letting people know your location, saying you need help, mobilizing groups of people... communication is key. :)

Same reasons for me, again. It's kind of a turn off to some players when they join a map get instantly "owned." It just takes a lot of practice and technique. The jump+aim move is pretty much essential for close range AWP action.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
I've played Zombie Mod for CSS, and it was pretty damn fun. Much better than the actually game itself. However, I like a zombie mod called Zombie Survival (woah creative names!) for Gmod better. It's obivously much more polished, visually and gameplay wise, due to Gmod being more open-source than CSS. There are some pretty cool maps, too. I dunno, though.
-
Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
the main thing that turns me off ZM is the noise. A few dozen automatic weapons going off at once gets pretty annoying. Also it still feels pretty unfair for the zombies though the ability to move props did even it out a lot.
-
Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
You have to play to understand the whole zombies-through-props thing.
When someone uses an automatic weapon in, say, a vent, it makes it almost impossible for any zombie to even get close. This makes the game stale and repetitive, and quite frankly, no fun.
So bunnyhopping is just a way to help zombies have a better chance. Though, in some servers, they make it fair by making it pistol-only in spots where zombies have to crouch to attack you (this is how the server I play on is). It makes it more fun.
EDIT EVERYONE!
Aerowyn is now online playing some CSS... here's the ZombieMod server in which she plays (under the username of "Aerowyn /TAT\"):

Game starts, you buy your weapons, and after a set period, a zombie is chosen randomly and goes to T, while everyone else goes to CT. Alpha zombie gets 7000hp, and every other zombie gets 5000hp. Zombies run faster than humans (CTs) but zombie can only use knife. Zombie can also move away barricades created by humans. Oh, and weapons knock back zombies, especially m3.

Re: The Counter-Strike: Source Thread
Yeah, the fact that you start with "fresh" weapons with practically no ammo is very annoying, but you can usually get by, as things respawn like a deathmatch game. If only stuff would carry over between server level changes, but I'm sure that would be pretty hard. Also, weapon loads in the standard campaign is really annoying.
