[GALLERY] Reaper Man's Photography
Some of my recent and favorite photos.

More to come, also more to see at http://reapermanhk.deviantart.com/
Sorry about the portrait images, any possibility of [vshot] tags?
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Long ago p0lar condensed the vshot and shot tags into one thing, so you dont need em. Lovely shots, i've never really seen great shots of anywhere in hong kong (and ive seen your others, like that bus and the meat seller, etc), really great work.

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Could I have a copy of the Mui_Wo_Sunrise_by_ReaperManHK.jpg one in 1280 x 800 for my desktop background? Really good though. What type of camera do you use?

Your photography is amazing, especially that first one of the building. It's such a move towards abstraction that it's hard to tell what it is at first.
This is a good thing, of course. VERY pleasing to the eye. :)

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. It's an HDR shot which is why it looks so strange. Not being able to tell what it is was what I was going for when I took it, as I also have some generally uninteresting shots of the building too.
For all those that have asked, I use a Nikon D80 along with the kit lens 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 (which I'm soon going to replace) and a 50mm f/1.8D lens. (I also bought an SB600 flash with a lambency diffusor yesterday)
Soccerbummer, about the Canon XSI, it's a great camera, but it still irritates me because of there only being one control dial (most/more advanced cameras have two). But it's more about the person using the camera than the camera you have. I say look around and find a camera that you like to use.
For the full size images (well technically they're half-size, if you need the full 10MP image, just ask):

#5
The 1280x800 image as asked:

Also, another abstract.

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
I know nothing about cameras, and I wish I did. You just explained what things you're getting and I have no idea what all of it means. LOL.
So how much is that going to cost you?

I think you read it wrong, I already have all the stuff i mentioned lol. I'm looking to replace my kit lens, maybe I should edit that paragraph <_<
The lens I wanna get to replace that aint cheap though and it's getting harder to find (because it's an older model) so I may even be forced to spend twice the amount I need to get the newer one (which is an awesome lens) which is pretty much everywhere. I don't have that kinda money. D:

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
lol, I figured as much. I don't even have my own camera.
My mom is a daylily hybridizer (she makes flowers have sex and have babies), and she sells the results of cross-pollination on her website if they're any good. Well, she uses a Canon Digital Rebel XTI to take her pictures, but she has NO CLUE how to use it properly.
I WANT her camera, because it's comfortable and all, but the lens it has doesn't have nearly the zoom range I would like it to, and it has barely any macro capability (I've wanted to try that for a while now). That and it's an $800 camera... so I can't afford one unless I save up my christmas monies for a long while. Ah, well. Sooner or later, I'll afford it. :)

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Wow, these are really beautiful. I especially liked the sunset and insect ones.

Camera stuff is cheap here in Hong Kong :downs:
Also, for macro photography, you need a macro lens, ask Timo about that, he recently got a 100mm f/2.8 macro lens for his 400D.

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Sorry for double post, but, moar photo. Starting year-long IB art project, the subject I picked was Decay, so I decided to give it a go today.
Also, I think the [shot] tags should be edited so that a portrait-orientated image is 600px tall instead of 600 wide.
E: Made 600px tall so as to be tolerably viewed <_<

Came across this when looking through some of my shots of Berlin, decided to play with the new camera raw b&w/duo tone features. The browns seem really nice and rich on my desktop's screen, but on my laptop they seem very gray, how about you guys?

Seriously though your B&W pics look really cool.

My dog's usually crazy, but this time he was sitting there, staring at me while I took photos of a flower, so I decided to take a few shots of him, in his rare moment of calm. lulz.

Re: [GALLERY] My Photography

Enjoy. If you want them cropped differently, just ask. Also, they're not the sharpest photos, but I did my best with what equipment I have. I need a real tripod (i have a dinky little cheap alloy one) and some better lenses.

An old shot I came across when bored. I decided to experiment with duotones.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Too blurry imo.
I've always loved the distinct details on flames, but this one seems kind of.. blurry?
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Well, as the temple was dark and somewhat drafty, even a shutter speed of 1/160 was not enough to freeze the movement of the flame. Also, shooting at such a large aperture (f/1.8) bright objects tend to have a kind of halo glow effect.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
I like the blur of the flames tbh. It creates a definite contrast between the amount of detail visible on the candle + it's wick and the flame its self
-

Not sure. I'm sure you could apply an unsharp mask to video frames within a video editing program (Vegas, Final Cut Pro etc), but that would take quite a while to process.
I don't do videography, so I'm making guesses here.

Google is your friend for this, I used books to learn, so I don't have any sites I would recommend.
A quick search came up with this high-pass sharpening technique: http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tuto...harpening.html

http://fc74.deviantart.com/fs36/i/20...eaperManHK.jpg
As I have probably mentioned before, the topic for my IB art coursework is Time, so I decided to take somewhat of a cliche and turn it into a sequence of images. This is a multiple exposure of 4 shots of a droplet (obviously, lol)
How I did it:
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Very cool, and what's that thing behind the glass with the funky legs? A flash or something?
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Awesome. How many shots per second can you take?
Also, It's a flash. Weirdest tripod ever though o_o
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
It's legs resemble that of a ribbed sex toy.
Great photograph though. Do you happen to have higher res versions of that image?
-

About 1 or 2, it took a lot of patience, those two photos are multiple exposures.

It's not a sex toy :phonegonk:; it's a gorillapod
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
How many tries did it take to get it timed like that?
E: lol, timed >_>
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Lots, I don't know, but the series of drops are several photos merged together, i had to wait till I got a drop in the position I needed before I could add it to that comp though, took aaages :saddowns:
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Just getting one drop for some of my photos was hard enough, although my system was a bit retarded. Holding a turkey baster over a pot plant holder and dropping, woop woop focus.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Took me about half an hour to get all my equipment set up (was running around school, stealing stuff from the science labs, lul) and to get the exposure right, then about an hour of taking lots of droplet photos. Double period of art.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
http://fc63.deviantart.com/fs37/i/20...eaperManHK.jpg
This is inspired by my previous works and a suggestion from my art teacher to work with sequences. I attempted to replicate one of my previous photos and continue on with it, but I just couldn't get it right, so I decided to go through all the stress of doing one from scratch.
Five exposures.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Like that one better than the other two, nice job :)
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Is it five photos of one drop stitched together or a photo of a lot of drops?
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
What Timo said (also, thanks). I didn't move the camera on the tripod, so I don't feel as if I cheated though. :downs:
Also, I did actually have a shot with lots of droplets but it wasn't particularly good.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
You know what would have been cool? If you had an hour and minute hand that you moved for each shot of a droplet.
-
Re: [GALLERY] My Photography
Great idea! Too bad I was using a photo of a clock as the background. Maybe if I have the patience to try it again :gonk:
-
