Re: Milestone in my mod project.
Hmm, I might have to start playing more then Team Fortress 2 for multi-player Source Engine enjoyment.

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
You could've used more polygons on the barrel though, IMO.

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
no.
keep in mind these are small turrets, placed on a huge cpaital ship, there's like 40 of these scattered over the hull. if anything, it could use less.

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
Wow I had no idea this even existed! Freakin' awesome man, can't wait for release. There is a substantial lack of good original hl2 mods out there, especially ones where you fly a ship.

Why the high resolution textures then?

It's 2008... everything has to have high res textures.

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
Congrats on the big milestone. It's always good to know people stick with their mods 'till the end :). Plus rep for keeping at it for so long :).

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
So how long have you personally been working on ES anyway?

they're 512's ingame. we noted the fact there's no need for a 1024 for them as well.
they have to have a decent resolution though, because you CAN fly right up to them and 'look down the barrel'.
plus, the large capitalships use like 2x 2048 maps, because they're in fact, very very BIG.
the turrets etc also have very aggresive LOD's.

ehhhhhhhh about 3 years now i guess.
could be more.

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
So, the textures in the gallery images are higher-res than the textures ingame?
And if so, do you plan to release the high-res textures later on?
-
Re: Milestone in my mod project.
#1 yes and no.
the only reason that particular one happens to be high res is because i posted a 1024 texporter output, and he assumed the texture would be the same res, and he didn't read the comment attatched saying a 512 would be plenty. this one just happens to be higher than the ingame one.
#2 kinda automatically goes to no after #1

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
I still think the texture guy doesn't know what hes doing with the designs. All of the lines and plates don't seem to make much sense and seem to just intersect and touch each other for no reason. He could have at least dressed them up a bit and given them a bit of a slight scratch along the line edges.
Fucking awesome work though.

I see some inspiration from the pelican on one of the ships in there. :o

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
lookie lookie, it's another update.
first of all, i bring you a quick overview of the story behind the entire game.
Quote:
Story Overview
500 years ago, a large terrorist organization forced the free countries of the world to band together into a large military government. It was known as the UTF. The UTF was lead by a council and a high general. General Sheldon was the high general at this time and was fighting a bitter war for the UTF. Earth was subsequently destroyed in the war, the terrorists having used somesort of weapon on it.
This started a huge migration of all the survivors to the colony of Neo Terra, now the UTF homeworld. A lot of culture and biodiversity was lost with Earth. The UTF formed a government based on the military structure. It's a very roman view of the world. It became a large empire where military service was expected of everyone and discipline and authority were valued.
50 years ago the UTF made the discovery of the Surrogate, a giant space station mysteriously containing all the DNA and history that was lost with Earth. This spawned a renaissance as many people took to the ideas of the past. Many independent nations were founded near the Surrogate (found on Planet Vehera). The culture and DNA gained from the surrogate led to a simple way of life similar to the old life on earth. The Surrogate had automatically terraformed the planet Vehera into a garden of Eden. The Surrogate housed many scientists and scholars which used it for research and a small NGM division which protected the heritage site.
The UTF declared war on the planet Aethra after 50 years of peace. The assault was much like Pearl Harbor and Aethra was caught entirely by surprise. In response to the UTF hostility, the independent nations of the Surrogate formed the NGM. All the nations remain independent in government but share the military structure in order to fight the much larger UTF.
The war has started.
also added today, were 2 new sections to the site, the Manual to the entire game, and the Custom maps section.
the manual ofcourse explain the basic gameplay elements, how to get started, and what a typical game could look like.
the custom maps section has information posted, for how to set up your source SDK to work for Eternal Silence, in order to create your own maps for ES. (note that this is quite a bit more complicated than making a regular HL2 map)
And ofcourse there's a few pix to go along with it. also release end this month

Re: Milestone in my mod project.
Reminds me so much of Star Wars Battlefront II, with the space battles.
