    Arrival




    After a decade, I have returned with an arrival.


    Hey all,
    It has been too long... or some might say not long enough. Its been a decade since I last released a map for Halo Custom Edition and I decided that today, on my birthday of all days, I would release a video looking back at all 25 of the maps I made back in the day and have a crack at making a 26th map, after not having done so for 10 years.

    This thread is the release thread for the map Arrival, a medium sized S Shaped canyon divided by Forerunner bridges and structures. I only tested Slayer and CTF on the map and both are good to go.


    Map Backstory:
    Long ago a Forerunner of the Builder rate found this secluded S shaped canyon and called it his home. Over the many years he found seclusion here from the political squabbling within the Forerunner Ecumene, he spent decades turning the once lush natural landscape into an integrate series of structures, towers and bridges. One day near the end of the Builder's life, a huge ring like object arrived in high orbit around the solemn world he called home. This ring and the ships that guarded it, can still be seen in the sky above the canyon, desolate and lifeless... which juxtaposes the now verdant canyon, where vegetation has begun to take back and reclaim the canyon for its own.

    A few things stood out to me:


    • Red team (and the red flag) spawn in the blue base, and vice versa.
    • The switches in the bases - I assume there's some combination of these which does something like a secret room, but they say "Press "E" to touch device <need a string entry here>?" when you stand near them to interact.
    • Getting out of the level is super easy on either of the bases.
    • I tried the game on CTF and blue team (in the red coloured base) didn't get a Ghost.
    • There's no wind in the map so when nobody's carrying the flag, you can't see it (only the flagpole)
    • If you stand at the window in either base and look up, you can see the underside of some scenery through the ground above and outside the window.
    • There's some rocks around the map I think are mis-positioned. There are places that are barely too tight for the chief to walk between. Maybe not a "problem" but it annoyed me enough to mention it.
