I wouldn't worry so much about that. Judging by the overwhelming reaction to IW's decision, companies will realize soon that dedi removal is not the brightest idea. Especially when PC sales start to drop drastically.

I understand what you are saying, is this going to be like what Microsoft tried to do with H2V (minus Dedi Servers), pay to play as it may be?
I would not be surprised, even though as long as there are alternatives, and programmers willing to stick the alternatives into hit PC games (like someone making an unofficial Dedicated Server patch for MW2), I cannot see these pay-to-play (for non-mmo) business plans working out.
It won't work. Ever.
PC gamers are (for the most part) smarter than console kids and know when there getting ripped off.
That's another reason while H2V sold like ass.
