Woah, I'm totally confused. Perhaps I might explain myself a little better.

HaloDemo.net and HaloDemoMods.com are the same site, a wiki for modding Halo Demo (for Mac). We have a mod database that is a comprehensive list of all the published mods and is at just under 300 mods right now, tools like Eschaton and HMT and other various resources, a small number of tutorials so far (most are in modding packs on the tools page and over at MGM), links to other Halo sites like modacity and halomaps.org, and a database of tags that can be imported for demo and full using Eschaton and/or HMT/HHK that are found on the tools page. The community HDM serves is over at MacGamingMods.com. We are very active and our membership is constantly growing. There are on average 20-40 Halo Demo servers up during the day, so we still have players, and at least about half of these rooms use mods found at HDM.

So I wonder if the Full and CE communities would like us to support them with, at the very least, a page like our Mod Database, a Tools page, and a Tutorials category.

I agree that CE is pretty much closed-source... can you tell me more about this Source/UE I've never heard of before?

Thanks for all your helpful comments!

Oh, and about the wiki here at modacity: if the main focus is tutorials, then it would be best for HDM to link to Modacity's tutorials rather than duplicate them.

Source refers to Source Engine games like Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 1/2, Counter Strike Source, etc. The Source Engine is pretty open - you can make mods for it by modifying the C++ code they provide for you (the client and server DLL's for each game, which are seperate from the Source Engine itself. Basically, all the things that are related to gameplay type stuff, you can modify).

UE refers to Unreal Engine which is used in a fuckton of games. Recently, the UDK (Unreal Development Kit) was released, which allows anyone to more or less produce their own games using one of the most advanced engines on the market without any licensing to deal with. If you make over $5000 with the game, the developers behind the engine (Epic Games) will take a cut of your sales after that point, but from what I remember it wasn't too bad.

Our community will probably end up shifting to one of these two engines eventually.

As for whether Modacity can do anything to help with your wiki...most of the people who have really intimate knowledge of CE have either moved on to other engines or left this site, but you may be able to get some help from here. You'll probably have more luck if you IM people individually and ask them.

    Just a suggestion...

If you really want to expand, help out the Mac users, and help us, you should look into running Halo CE on Mac OS.

One of our members, klange, is an avid Linux user. He's gone though a bunch of trials to get Halo running on the UNIX base. Since Mac OS X is also based on UNIX, you can follow his method of running Halo Custom Edition under WINE. Heck, you can even go as far as running OpenSauce and the Halo Editing Kit!

His guide is actually a sticky right here at the top of the Halo CE forum. You can find it here: http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17146

If it seems too involved, I'm sure you could even ask him nicely to possibly create some script or something to automatically do most of the steps.

Yeah, I think you jumped the gun on that one sevlag. That, or I am just as confused as them as to how he didn't say that. Which could be possible, because even I knew that you could run it on Mac OS, so why wouldn't Jcap.

I think he thought they might not know CE could be run on mac, or was telling them to actually switch over to CE on mac rather than continue modding demo.
