You do find shallow ones from time to time but I've never seen them in that shape.
Maybe your bullshiting or maybe notch actually added Him.

well its only one of the two i've found, but both are in a direction i've rarely gone, i just got the cartographer program to work and those are the only two that showed up

i've found only two in cartographer (not hard to see, one is where it was before i destroyed it and the other is in a small less deep pit (again base was only 1 block into the ground)

there are two structures in the top left I've made, but since i never go in the right direction they're relics left over from when i bothered to journey out towards the edges of the map

    EDIT:

im just gonna ignore them for now, if more shit pops up ill check cartographer, but i doubt anything will happen, it seems like some randomly generated blocks to me

i need to find my emerald shrine, that too some woirk and ALOT of blasting

What's with the retarded height limit? The maps seem to be lolhuge in the x and y directions. Is there some reason for such a short ceiling?

    yeah that irks me

in other news no other weird mossy cobblestone pyramids have been found either in game or by cartograph

What I remember hearing is that it had something to do with the code that did lighting for each new chunk. Basically the higher the build ceiling the slower that calculation is. Might be left-over from an older version, since recent builds use a different method for calculating per-chunk lighting that would allow higher ceilings, they just haven't been implemented.

Why just have infdev work on XY? Would be p cool if you can dig downwards forever.

Imagine how fucking lost you'd get in inf-caves. I'm quite happy with how deep it is but I can't see how doubling the max height without really screwing with the terrain generation (maybe a few rare giga-mountains) would hurt.

    infinite development

It means the map goes on forever because it is generated procedurally.

Alpha used to be called (before the off-line client) infdev to differentiate it from indev (which was the original survival game mode but on limited maps like creative mode). Go check it out some times, you can choose the sort of terrain you want (hell, woodlands, desert, islands, floating islands, etc).
