Haven't been to an airsoft meet in forever, sadly my M56C (based off the M1014) is just collecting dust. ._.
Not an airsoft one, a real one.
Anyway, once you get the hang of flying with a mouse it's much superior to the keyboard only flying...

i have never been able to fly any vehicle in this series ever. and from the looks of things, quite a few other people share that sentiment. i was in a game in bc2 a few days ago where 5 team mates and i just circled around a chopper and looked at each other for a good 15 seconds before i finally got in, got about 50 feet of air (while going backwards), crashed into a hill, and bailed out before the thing burst into flames.
god i wish bc2 supported replays lol.
Because you're trying to fly the helo as if you were playing a shooter; nothing to be ashamed about, it just seems right, right? Well, it's not that straightforward. When you hit your steering keys, they don't do quite the same thing they do on the ground. Think about movement from the point of view of a helicopter: you are trying to tip it in the appropriate direction so you can get motion. You need to aim down to go forward, pull up to move backwards, roll left to strafe left, roll right to strafe right. Also remember that the mouse control is on an analogue plane (I think). Move forward, then re-centre the mouse position so you don't keep rolling forward and flip out.
Personally, I leave the flying to those who already have the practice; I'd rather do a job well and retain a good K/D and score than piss everyone off with my so-so helicopter skills. I'll take the gun, though. I'm good with the gun.
I was using the VADs thing in the US base last night. I was shooting at anything that flew within my view. Some dumbass kept flying his Flanker into me. He did the kamikaze thing 3 times in a row and didn't even notice that I was still at 100% HP in it. I just don't know why he didn't pick engineer, fly over the base, jump out and then shoot rockets at me. That would have fucked me up, but no, he decided to waste his team's valuable resources: vehicles, tickets, and time.
On that note; I don't understand how people are so terrible at using the helicopter gun... Some people just can't hit anything if their life depended on it (and it usually does), and then there are some people who hop in (on Caspian Border) and only try and shoot down jets. I just don't get how some people can be so terrible with such an overpowered lolcannon. The gun in the helicopter on BF3 can RAPE tanks in a few shots (unlike the one in BC2), and the AOE damage of the thing is insane, on top of that, add to the fact that the bursts last twice as long or longer than the bursts in the BC2 heli.
Hell, it's easier then running around even, since all you need to do is look around, zoom, and shoot.
I guess you haven't tried it yet, but there's an out-of-bounds area around the majority of the enemy teams base to prevent spawn killing. So doing the engineer thing wouldn't have worked either. Also, the VADS thing (not the LAV-AD) is indestructible to anything to prevent air-camping.
<3 this.
