many laptops serve that purpose. Mine runs Halo 2 at 1024x768 on low, 30 fps.

Anyway, if you want to "upgrade" a laptop's video card...

    ASUS XG Station

    MSI Luxium

Those two devices are basically enclosures that let you stick in a desktop PCI-express video card and connect it to a laptop via an ExpressCard slot (you must have the full-size slot, not the expresscard 34 slot found on Macbooks). It's nowhere near as fast as putting it in a real desktop computer, but it is a good way to bring high-end video to a crappy laptop. By the way, you can only game at home at your desk if you do this, because the enclosure is heavy and needs its own power supply.

Cyberpower, Dell, Alienware, Sager, and Voodoo have adopted a format called MXM (Nvidia only), which is an attempt to make a standard PCI express for laptops. MXM means that you can actually take out the card and stick in a new one, but you cannot do this for integrated video.

Omega, you're essentially stuck with your laptop - either buy a new system altogether or get one of the two devices I mentioned (when they come into retail...)

Ignore this guys. ._. It plays H2V 1024x768 high settings 4xAA fine.

Lol here's a reason for not having 2 computers, not enough money. Besides I might want to play games on the go. Anyway, once I make enough money I'm going to buy an Asus G1 notebook, it's meant for gaming, it's got dual core 2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, and nvidia 7700 video card, which is 512 MB dedicated graphics memory, so H2V should run fine right?

BTW in a notebook, when it says dedicated graphics memory does that mean you can switch graphics cards? Because I know on the bottom of the Asus G1, there's covers for RAM, CPU, HD, and I think video card but I'm not sure. Once I get the g1 can I mix and match all of those?
Technically, a dedicated video card means that you can upgrade the laptop card, but it isn't as simple as it looks. You can't just pop out the card and slap in a more powerful one. Anyway this is a Nvidia-only property.

Nvidia's MXM is complicated. You have 3 types - Type 1 is for low end cards (not integrated, i.e. Geforce 7300), Type 2 is for mid-range cards (i.e. Geforce 7600), and Type 3 is for high-end cards (i.e. Geforce 7900). You can't take out a Type 2 card and stick in a Type 3 card because of size constraints (e.g. if your laptop is 15.4", you can't stick in a super powerful card because they need 17" or larger).

You can take out the card and slap in a new one, but your options are so limited that it really is not worth it. Essentially, you're stuck with whatever laptop GPU you have. I know Asus has made a laptop that is touted for being the most upgradeable yet, but that upgradeability is not that easy for the video card.

Asus G1 notebooks are superb gaming machines...if you can find the correct retailer who sells them for a decent price, that is. Newegg is your destination. Use www.notebookreview.com to check for great deals.

And another word: Dedicated video memory is good, but it does not always mean the card itself is dedicated. HP/Compaq, for example, makes Radeon X200s with dedicated video memory, but the chip itself is integrated into the motherboard, which makes it a crappy chip.

One more thing, here's a helpful guide for notebook video cards:

Thanks Xet, I was getting worried by that post, and thank you Mr. Buckshot, your posts were extremely helpful (+rep 4 u). I'll check out those links, and it reassures me that G1's are superb since I'll be getting one.

One more thing: (ok, 2) How well will a g1 be able to play halo 2 at 1680x1050 resolution, and what about 1280x800? Also, how well will I be able to switch graphics cards in a g1?

And how the hell will I make $1700 anytime soon?...

Well, my point is, I don't see it as worth it to drag a box of hardware along with a mouse (with no surface to move it on), a keyboard, speakers, a monitor, ethernet cable and a power cord into the bathroom just so you can be on it for a few minutes while you shit. While you could just take a less-than-ten-pound box of hardware in with none of the extras. But if that's the way you do it, go ahead :/

Anyway I still am in need of answers to my couple of questions.

I get this exact error when I try to install, exactly the same. I have an Nvidia 7900 video card, an intel core 2 6400 processor (2.13 GHz), 4 GB of RAM and Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I don't think this is related to any hardware issues since I meet the recommended requirements and everything. Suffisive to say, upgrading your computer is not gonna help. If you ever find a sollution to the problem, let me know: S104Fred@hotmail.com

The only time we've been able to repro this issue internally is when Windows update is also running. Make sure this is not running when you try to install H2V. If that still doesn't work then please let me know.
