Ok, i'm just a tad distraught right now as I have been playing Halo 2 on Vista solidly for the last few days on legendary. It's taking me a while to get through it because parts are quite tough. Anyway, i was making good progress and today I reached the end of the level where you are playing as the Covenant and you bump into the humans whilst looking for the Index thingy. The cinematic played and then Halo crashed. No problem i thought, i'll just load it up and continue from the last checkpoint...

Or maybe not, i was horrified to see that it loaded up the checkpoint i started at earlier in the day, which was probably about 6 hours of gameplay ago. To make things worse, it's the part where you need to kill the Prophet of Regret which took me flipping ages! I really can't face going through everything again. Can anyone help me unlock the levels so that I can continue on Legenday from where i was? I would really appreciate it as i'm devastated. Oh and also, I haven't completed Halo 2 yet as i don't have an Xbox or 360.

To help cut down on that whole 6 hours for one part you might wanna take a look at highspeedhalo and just copy the runs.

Thanks for the response, I'll check out those vids but I really don't want to have to do it again. Can I not copy someone else's profile who has completed Halo on legendary into my directory?

You could do the rename glitch thingy...

copy the first map the 00_tutorial.map or whatever (the one that's only a cinematic) and paste it into the maps directory... rename the copys to the maps that you've completed and then you can atleast get back to the beginning of the next level (or two levels.. whichever)

I checked out that map hack thing and it worked! Thank you so much for your help, you have saved me much time and stress. If anyone else wants to know, below is the hack i used. I renamed all the maps I had completed and just skipped through the repeated cinematics until my level loaded. Great stuff!

k heres what you do.
Goto your halo 2 maps folder
Usually:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\maps
Now. See your 00a_introduction.map file?
Move 01b_spacestation-08b_detlacontrol somewhere else
Make 14 more copys of that. then rename the copys
01a_tutorial
01b_spacestation
03a_oldmombasa
03b_newmombasa
04a_gasgiant
04b_floodlab
05a_deltaapproach
05b_deltatowers
06a_sentinelwalls
06b_floodzone
07a_highcharity
07b_forerunnership

Then just do it on legendary.
Everytime you see the intro start, hit enter or A on the controler
It will be alot of loading screens but its faster than doing the whole game (again for some of us).
After you got what you came for just put the old maps back.

oh hey! I was looking for that post, but any ways, your little problem isn't that bad, I've once had my computer turn off on me (my foot was too close to the power strip) and I was working on some home work that was a page or two of typing and photos, and I some times forget to save the things I'm working on, so I lost it all, but oh well I went back, redid it all, had it all looking nice, and looked better then that last time I did it. I don't know why but for me making two things twice and have them look, feel, sound, and act the same as the first is very very hard for me, even when I play games, I'm trying something else the next time I sit down to play.
