M'kay, I checked for any processes goin higher than Halo 2.
When I am playing with no lag Halo 2 goes from 40ish CPU, and the only other thing higher than that is System Idle Process.
When there is a lag spike it is sorta the same... System Idle Process is the only thing that is running more than Halo 2.

The first time it says lag on the left is when it begins, and the one on the right is when it ends...

Can you please put your dxdiag in [code]dxdiag[/code] instead of the spoiler tags?

Wow I don't know what you can do...maybe clear pagefile on shutdown?

1. Start Regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management
3. Select ClearPageFileAtShutdown from the list on the right.
4. Right click on it and select Modify.
5. Change the value to 1 to enable.
6. Reboot your computer.

It'll take awhile to reboot since it is clearing the pagefile (which is usually a huge file).

Why would you want to do this?

I think having huge pagefiles may effect the Memory Load on your RAM, so lowering the "burden" can relieve the lag spikes? Maybe, maybe not.

Btw, remember to set it back to 0 if you don't want to always go through long shutdowns/restarts.

Glancing through this thread, I'm not sure if this is understood. Vista uses DX10 regardless of what video card you have. DX10 is capable of emulating DX9 in real time.

However, a 7300 is a lowend card. It might be relatively strong for a lowend card, but it's still not that great. Assuming by lag you mean framerate drop, check into your background processes. Vista is great at memory management and will often realize it can make better use of memory by caching certain parts to the hard drive and opening it up to the primary applications. Dont get me wrong as it is a decent computer, but since it's not the greatest a bottleneck might occur when the extra data is going from RAM to HDD and that might cause your framerate drop; especially since the GPU is a 7300 and not the best for playing games.

I understand... On the back of my box that I got my card, it says it can handle DX9, not 10. When I first bought it I had this thought in the back of my head, "What if this doesn't work on my Vista because Vista needs DX10?"

I can live with lag, it just gets very annoying. I remember when I got Halo: Combat Evolved on my older computer a long time ago. I had to play with -useff on and go like that till I got a new computer..

Hopefully I eventually find a way to fix this, or I'll just wait till I get another computer....

Well your Graphics Cards Drivers are old, so I suggest that you update them and also your Sound Drivers.
They're all prior to the game release so it could be your problem.

I bought my graphics card a week before I installed the game. I used the drivers that were on the CD they gave me...

But, I'll still update them both.

Oh and while I was looking for drivers I found this.

have anything forced on in your Graphics Cards Control Panel? Like AA or AF? And when's the last time you've defragged? And you should try those fixes and any other that you could find. Plus maybe the Dual Core Optimizer if you don't have it already.
And what are your ingame setting? I see that you've got a quite crazy resolution on your desktop and I'm hoping that you're not trying to play the game with the same resolution with that graphics card...
And try running a Selective Startup.

An amd with 2.2ghz? Amd is todays pentium D. I've just been an avid intel fan, especially since the conroe came out, cant wait for the next gen to come out in a few months. Also your graphics card is probably walking with a cane.

I just think you need to lower all the settings on your computer. Its last years model. It seems like every other month my computer goes out of date. I just update till i cant than start new. I hate it and love it. Anticipation is the best part of anything.
Dont you hate how fast computers go out of date?

3ghz core2. The funny thing its the slowest thing in my comp. I must need a 2- slotted motherboard.
