Re: SnaFuhrer's Monthly Military Modeling Challenge

My question was more geared towards more futuristic aspects, such as "does it have to be ground-based?" or "does it need to have wheels or treads?".

And again, I direct you to that wikipedia article.

Armoured personnel carriers (APCs) are armoured fighting vehicles developed to transport infantry on the battlefield. They usually have only a machine gun although variants carry recoilless rifles, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), or mortars. They are not really designed to take part in a direct-fire battle, but to carry the troops to the battlefield safe from shrapnel and ambush. They may have wheels or tracks. Examples include the American M113 (tracked), the British FV 432 (tracked), the French VAB (wheeled), the Dutch/German GTK Boxer (wheeled) and the Soviet BTR (wheeled). More heavily armed and armoured are Infantry fighting vehicles, which are designed for direct combat.

It can be wheeled, tracked, a mix of the two, hover, be amphibious, etc. So long as it carries troops, is your original design, and armored.

Or, like I said, it can be designed to fit into alternate history, such as a steam powered one with steel plates all over to protect from musket fire.

Snaf said it could be a futuristic vehicle. A hovering APC would reduce the risk of triggering IEDs and Mines, therefore improving the odds that troops are delivered intact.

Make sure you make some cool looking hover jets/repulsers instead of just modeling an APC without a drive assembly.

    EDIT: Fuck you Snafaroo.

Take a look at the hover tanks from battlefield 2142 for inspiration. Those things were awesome.

Don't you think that the manner of propulsion to keep an entire APC airbourne...even to a hover. Don't you think that would trigger mines?

Might not. Current hovercraft can safely traverse over anti-tank mines, to my knowledge. However, if the skirt were to catch the trigger of a bounding mine, that would compromise the air cushion.
