School, Mostly a waste of time? Give your opinion!

I think that school is a huge waste of time. During the majority of school, I just sit there with the teacher teaching other student's things that I have learned more than two years ago, and everything I learned last year in social studies, and the year before, has already been forgotten, due to me not needing to know it. Also, considering the massive amount of time I spend on a computer on a forum or such, I don't really need english class to teach me how to read complex sentences and words, along with how to write or type with proper spelling and grammar, due to me having learned it on my own in my spare time. Having learned what would take about 5 or so years in school, which i learned in about 2-3 months during summer, in spare time on the internet, leads me to think that it is even more of a waste of time.

Aswell stupidly, where I live, we have this 990hrs rule, meaning we have to be in school for atleast 990hrs throughout the whole year, when most of it is spent in study hall chatting with friends, or eating lunch. Because you could be done with all of your classes by 12 o'clock, but you would still have to stay in school due to the stupid rule. Also, now on to homework, I find it mostly pointless, all they want is to make sure you know the material, and well, isn't that what tests are for? If you spend twice the amount of checking on something, it may stay in the students head for a bit longer, but when they graduate and get a job, or go to colledge, odds are that the student will forget it due to them not needing to learn it.

Another problem I have is with the incredibly huge amounts of repetition and learning things you have learned atleast 5 times by now. How many times must we learn about how columbus went to america just for gold? Another thing, when it comes to some classes, all the teacher wants to know is if you tried and made an effort, and in the real world, that wont really do anything if you only put in effort, but do not do it correctly. Well, thats my two cents, and whatever you do, DON'T SAY TL;DR.

I don't mind going to school, I really don't like the whole learning part, but I like hanging out with my friends, which is why I go to school and dont get homeschooled.

i'm lucky i've got an amazing brain, almost photographic memory when it comes to knowledge, but then again, i suck with numbers, like phonenumbers. i only know my own ohousenumber, and dont even know my own mobile number.

i never had to do anyuthing during highschool, yet i still learnt, and remember, even up to today everythign that was ever taught there, and that was 3 years ago. i didnt even have to study for my final exam.

i never really went to school to learn anything, and most of the thigns that were taight were rather self-explanatory, and i did believe, while i was there, it was a waste of time.

now, i'm 20 years old, and have a fulltime job as 3d artist, and looking back on that time, i can tell anyone that school, isn't a waste of time. it wasnt for me anyway.

next arguement though, is that it differs STRONGLY from school to school, and country to country.

where i come from, dutch, english, french AND german, are all MANDATORY courses.
i was taught about nuclear physics when i was 14, and high level chemistry, and sub-atomic particles at 16, so i can definately say i had a good school.

some might not be able to say the same. especially when you're in america, because jesus christ, american schools are bad. no offence.
i've never been in one, so i can't really give a more founded opinion, but that's what i've heard, read, seen, and seen the results off.

in cases where you are in a bad school where you don't actually LEARN anything, its propably a waste of time, and even bad for you, because the only thing you * could * learn are social skills, but in such a bad school, i can't really imagine a healthy learning environment for socialskills, and send kids down the wrong path, so to speak.

i guess that you really have to ask yourself if you're going to a good school, and actually learn things, or not. the fact of wether you aftually care about the thigns you learn are irrelevant. and trust me, you'll realise when you're older why. might seem cliche, but it's the damn truth.

and to you personally wolf, i'd just want to tell you, that yes, i too thought homework was useless at the time, and honestly, i didnt do much of it myself, because i could get away woth it, or just copy it off someone. i COULD get away with it, because i had a sponge-brain. if you don't, i really do suggest you just make the homework you're supposed to, do it reluctantly, or pissed, but just do it. trust me, when you're 20 or so you'll see for yourself why i'm telling you this.

edit: you're in an american school, aka propagandafactory, you might not understand when you're 20, but for god's sake, keep stimulating your brain, and stay creative. THINK about things, and WANT to seek knowledge about what interests you. that's the thing schools HERE tend to, which isn't the case in america. keep stimulating yourself in as many ways as possible, and THEN you'll realise its importance when you're 20+

Depends on how good your teachers are. Through most of my school years I had shitty teachers who didn't give a damn about what they were teaching, and I didn't learn a thing in those classes. Every once in a while though, I would get a really good teacher and I absorbed everything they said. Generally, I had to study on my own to actually pass the classes and spent most of my time in school just socializing :\

Also, if you're thinking it's too easy why has no teacher recommended you to skip a grade? You should be "schooling" that homework.

PS. High school Diplomas are irrelevant in this day and age. Unfortunately, it's necessary for the things that are relevant.
