I think the armor in H2 was already beaten up because it was already used by another spartan who had to test it. I agree though, the MC's Mark V has been in only 2 skirmishes before the events of halo 1. Even then, the chief isn't one to get shot that bad.

And the armor in H3 was too clean. It was like, wtf, where'd all my fucking battle scars go? Keep it clean, I says!!!
that helmet is boring as fuck.
And in the first picture of the thread, the chief was so beat up it was ugly.
Also, in the H3 Beta there were more scars than there were in retail, also at higher res. Don't quite know how that happened.
The retail masterchief bitmap is higher resolution (1024x1024) than the beta one (512x512).
