If you read the Halo Manual, under plasma pistol it says something like "The UNSC currently don't understand how to recharge a plasma pistol battery".

Yeah, enough discussion on how feasible it is and whether or not the covenant had replaceable batteries or not. It's creative and the animation looks great. I don't see what wrong with that.
