Coasting in gear uses less gas than coasting in neutral. The computer lowers the fuel to air ratio because the engine is being driven by the wheels, and the gas isn't needed. Neutral is good if you want to coast for distance on a weak hill, but you might want to downshift on hills that are steep enough to keep you moving at the speed limit while in gear.Originally Posted by p0lar_bear
