Ask if they can prohibit clients 1.0 and 1.04 (THOSE ONLY!) from querying the server list. Heh.
Actually, just block the servers from talking to Gamespy on those versions. Then you don't need to worry about clients since there will be no list.

Will do!
I asked him if he could ban via hash so that I could give him some hashes from my Devicator database that have a bajjillion names associated with them:
Also, I'm testing the waters with my latest message to him... Lets see what kind of a reaction he has to what we, the community, mainly Rec0, Kornman, etc, have been able to do to the dedicated server in terms of the Devicator. I'd like to see if he's for researching the game like this or not, though since Halo CE is mainly Gearboxes game I'm not sure he'll much care.I need to figure that part out; I don't currently know how to correlate the key with the hash that appears in the ban file, so I'll have to dig through the source.
I have to be careful about that from a policy perspective, though: if someone files an official complaint with Microsoft that they were banned, I don't think I can cite "community volunteers" as a legally valid source of ban data. When you give me the CD key, that's actual proof (or, put another way, if posessing the CD key makes you its owner, then you just asked me to ban 8 copies that you own, and I obliged :-)
anyway, the Gamespy site automatically tracks keys that are being used from multiple IPs and I can continue to ban the notable offenders based on that, so don't trouble yourself over it.
thanks,
Roger

I was just about to get the update changer too.![]()
Lancer, I asked him something like that, and he said that he isn't allowed to help the community with things like Opensauce, Devicator, etc.
Thanks for asking about blocking the versions. They can effectively eliminate probably 95% of the piracy by doing that. I'm not saying that everyone who plays the game uses those older versions, but rather that most of the people who DO pirate the game play on those versions.
We're not asking for support here. It's not his job to support third-party "hacks" (if you want to call them) for the game. Freelancer was asking more for his opinion on them. I'm curious as well of his reaction to these things, especially with regard to OpenSauce. (PS: Hire Kornman)
Freelancer don't be a idiot. If you get him to disable 1.00 and 1.04 you would be the sole person responsible for killing Halo CE.
You would not only eliminate 95% of the pirates. You would eliminate 95% of the player base.
like I said, I'd rather play with 3 or 4 people than play with a bunch of shithead pirates.
Thats you, I bet more people would rather have more then a 100 player base. There's over a 1000 in 1.00 and 1.04 combined, and getting rid of those would drop. Halo CE is still 20 dollars at my Gamestop, and my local walmart dosent even sell it.
e: just opened 1.00 in version change, still almost 900 players.

Why should people deserve to play a game and have fun when they have not earned it?
