If you want to eliminate the majority of that mess flip your hard drives around so the connections are facing the front of your case, route the cables behind the hard drive cage. Loop the fan wires up and behind the fans themselves if you've got the cable length and route as much as you can behind the motherboard tray.

My comment on the closeness was because before I got my full tower, I could not plug the power connectors into my GPUs..

Ah, but did you have side mounted GPU power connectors like my cards or back mounted ones like on some cards? It also helps to have hard drives bays that are sideways

My HDD bays were sideways, but the power connectors were rear mount

Oh I see, hopefully there won't be any rear connecting cables in my future, because with the fan I strapped onto the HDD cage I'd be screwed.
