Apply a render-only flag to the ship's shader and cut out the polygons on the top that nobody would be able to see. You'd probably drop a good number of polygons.

Yeah I already made it render only. I'm too damn lazy to debug the collision on that thing.
Also anything that's back facing won't render anyways so I don't need to bother with it.
