You'd be surprised how docile rat snakes are. I handled a 4-foot black rat snake a few years back, and it was incredibly content with just wrapping itself around my arm/neck.Originally Posted by EX12693

All constrictors are like that.
that's why they're called constrictors.
Once he gets your scent and you don't make any sudden movements he'll just move around you and maybe try to get away if he can.
He does that because that's how snakes climb trees. He isn't doing it to try and attack me; he's doing it to have support and cling to what he's on.
