See, when I think of Half Life, I don't actually think of Gordon. I love those games because it creates a vacuum where how other characters interact with you dictates who you are, not the person himself. I can understand wanting to have more character development, but I actually enjoy it. It makes me feel like I can place more of my emotions into the game. In Halo, I feel like I'm playing as someone, so sometimes I don't feel as personally connected.
Gordon is really a pretty lame Garry Sue. He shouldn't be good at combat but he rapes everything in this universe, he never says a peep but everyone loves him, there is always, always a way to push forward no matter the odds, etc.
Halflife games are awesome, just not because of Dr Freeman.
