Exactly. Which is why there is no point really going there in this new campaign (which is what they are doing).

You never reach the safe zone in left 4 dead 1, you get picked up by the military to be taken to the safe zone....

or executed for fear of being carriers.

Either way, It is quite feasible that the safe zone is located in new orleans, and that is where you are evac'd to.

ORR the survivors figure out that their not being taken to a safe zone and are indeed being taken to be executed as carriers, and bill does something epic and takes out the pilot (or whatever, I dont remember which vehicle you escape in in the last l4d1 campaign) and crashlands somewhere along the path between the mall where "dead center" ends and the highway where "dark carnival" begins.

Thing is that you wouldn't know for sure. And if I wasn't sure, I sure as hell wouldn't try walking/hitchhiking/etc through MANY STATES just to get there, considering that would get you killed even faster. The point is not dying.

If the military came and picked you up (as in Blood Harvest) and took you to some outpost with food, water, and ammunition, you would consider your chances of survival there greater than if you just walked out and decided to take a little field trip almost 1000 miles long to HOPEFULLY survive long enough to find someplace "safer."

:P but hey, it's a game. We just assume they all eat nails for breakfast and ammunition is infinite.... cos it kind of is. XD

The military had choppers and vehicles to spare. If the New Orleans zones were still being held (and some were), it's perfectly conceivable the Army would try to regroup most of their resources in a concentrated spot. Original survivors could have been loaded onto a transport helo with any other survivors, shit happens, helo crashes, they cross paths with the L4D2 crew and end up splitting up (or dying!) for some reason.
