FASA probably just asked for the engine, since they were owned by Microsoft.

And now Reach will have a Shadowrun feel to it, what with Sage Merill on the team!

Apparently there was a bit of back-and-forth going on with FASA and Bungie.

Shadowrun’s dev team included a Halo alum, who was that and what did he bring to the party?
John – We have a couple actually. I was design lead for Halo (one) and Shadowrun and Bart House worked on the networking for Halo 2 and Shadowrun. We’ve also traded other arts and smarts over the past couple of years including Dorje Bellbrook who did concept art for Shadowrun and is now working on Halo 3."

What, so Sage was some guy on Shadowrun? I don't know these things.. if that's the case that's pretty awesome.

That sounds interesting..... Never herd of it though; did he release it somewhere? I've been looking into doing some memory hacking I may try to do a shadowrun style teleporter app. It would basically need to get current position and current looking direction and derive a new position value and teleport the player to it. I have no idea what really is possible with memory hacking so instead of sitting here babbling like a noob I'm going to read Patrick's tutorial a start fooling around with some stuff.

He released a beta (or alpha or pre-alpha, whatever) awhile back that worked in a map called Chiller. I had it in my old drive before it went gonzo.

They had full access to the code.

It's funny because one of the utilities in the prototype is a hologram. Expect, it also shoots enemies and runs around (so not just running a straight line) . The teleporter worked by pressing the button you had it mapped to and it would warp you about 5 feet or something (along with playing all the teleporter effects/sounds). You could remap all the buttons (so you could make the left trigger your weapon's trigger, etc). Was a pretty cool prototype, they really had fun with it. A few game breaking bugs though, but what do you expect?

It's a shame they couldn't figure out a way to reward the community that was playing Halo way back in the days of the Atari 2600. If anyone deserves "Flair" (Woooo!), it be they.

Just search around the HCE/release section (or look through patrick's created threads- that'd probably be faster).
There was a public working release a year or two back.

I did, and all links seem to be dead. )-:

No worries though I'm already relearning VB.net and am about to fun making my own stuff.

I found it!! The link wasn't dead. There was just a mistakenly appended l at the end of the url. Here is the chiller portal map if anyone has had revived interest.

Teleporting, is crazy easy. You just change the players position, then do some fancy effects (white screen) to cover up and make it look awesomer.
