anybody else heard about this? rumors surfacing that blackops will have a monthly subscription fee for online.
that doesnt sound like a subscription fee to me though. sounds like theyre going to do something similar to halo wars later on. then i read this:"In addition to downloadable content, we expect to explore, analyse and pursue opportunities to expand the brand into new geographies, genres and business models. We look forward to sharing more details with you regarding our plans in the coming months," said Activision CEO and President, Michael Griffith in a post-report conference call.
you can see the basis for the concern of pay for play online. does anybody have any other sources on this? When asked more recently about the one decision he would make if he could, Kotick claimed:
"I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow. When you think about what the audience's interests are and how you could really satisfy bigger audiences with more inspired, creative opportunities, I would love to see us have an online Call of Duty world. I think our players would just have so much of a more compelling experience."

if youre talking about xbl, thats the users pay monthly, 3 month, or yearly for a universal live service. the idea here is that cod:BO has its own pay to play system on top of that. unless this pay to play thing is pc only. there isnt any specific confirmation yet as far as i know so idk what to say at this point. i figured its worth mentioning.
E: lol paladin, two words?
Two words kid: XBOX
But yeah, that is disturbing. On top of that, I don't see how COD could be expanded past match-based games. An entire online world? Call of warcraft anyone? What comes to mind is a massive open world, far cry 2 style, except instead of AI its a bunch of dudes walking around shooting each other without time limit. (this might be fun if implemented correctly, but not really more of an expansion of the game than a giant map).
GFWL Gold was paid for a couple years, why the hell wouldn't they try it? I doubt BO will have this subscription service, though. Treyarch doesn't try hard to piss off their fans. They just copy the shit IW does and then add some features. I particularly liked WaW's European Campaign. I know they got some PC loving guys at Treyarch too.
I expect this kind of bullshit to hit MW3.
I read that as Kotick considering a Call of Duty MMORPFPS, which really, ain't too far from Modern Warfare 2's current design. Just throw in some character customizing, paperdolling, and scrap the main menu interface for an in-game hub, and you've got World of Duty/EverCoD.
Hell, Pooky and I were comparing MW2 and WoW's addictive features one night, and they're scarily similar...
e: Also, you forgot the "I'm too damn poor to play this vidya game" option.
