you can play on old saves con, its just that the biomes will only appear in newly generated chunks

nether (hell) portals can be made in old saves as well

Burns all the time, forever.

Additionally you don't find a portal, you make one.

Basically make a 5 vertical/4 horizontal obsidian frame, light the bottom obsidian blocks on fire, and portal will be made.

So I build a portal into the Nether, and things are cool. But when I try to exit via that portal, I wind up somewhere COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from where I placed my entrance in the real world. What's that about?
