Oh, I liked Halo 3 well enough, but I think it's fair to say it didn't live up to the titanic amount of hype it got. I definitely would still take Halo 1 or 2 over it.

Like I said that video just made me feel nostalgic. Reminded me of the days just before Halo 3 came out when I thought it really would be the best FPS of all time.

The beta was brilliant. Halo 3 could have been the best FPS of all time if it has the Reach engine and utilized a lot of assets availablea in the engine, such as armor abilities over equipment and a scoped-pistol that was actually useful. Halo 3 suffered from a mediocre campaign though. It lacked scale, which ironically Reach has.
No the campaign took a turn in the wrong direction. The H3 campaign should have been another gallivanting around the galaxy adventure and not the focus on earth. Halo 2 should have had the Earth Focus.
It was funny that it was called Halo 3 when you were on Earth for 6 missions, The Ark for 2, a Covenant super city for one and Halo for one. No one cares about Earth. Let's see all of earths colonies and planetary Forerunner installations. Halo Wars entertained me in the fact that we at least went to Arcadia...even though that game broke canon in so many stupid ways it was still kinda fun.

The engine is one of the things I disliked most about Halo 3. It just feels so awkward, clunky, and slow compared to any other FPS. The aiming controls are really bad compared to Call of Duty or even other Halo games.
Seriously though, no armor abilities and no equipment. All that crap just clutters up the core gameplay and contributes to over engineering (Halo 3 shotgun with a 2 foot range). Halo never needed all this extra stuff to be fun.
