I would hope that the smiley kind of expressed the sarcasm. But I see that sort of flew over your head. Also they did change it. AMD removed the ATi brand name in 2010.
The cards themselves have AMD printed on them. Names don't change the tech. The people do and the crew of ATi is still there. Truth is, you're right. You're absolutely right. We're all supposed to call it AMD, but gues what? Most gave a shit that it was being renamed to something stupid and we don't want to call it AMD. It's fucking ATi! It's just like how EA through a lot of their remaining subsidiaries under the Bioware name just so they could trick people into buying half assed games. Instead this sort of hurt ATi and AMD because some people aren't familiar or trusting of the AMD name and would rather pass it by than take a closer look. True story, I've seen the crushing ignorance happen in real life.
