Unfortunately, yes. And it was mild steel. Some of it was even rebar. Not ideal at all.
It also didn't help that the anvils and hammers I had access to were shit.
IDK, I have heard good things about using railroad spikes. Then again, I'm not really that good at anything I have ever tried so we will see what happens lol.
Long and short of it is square stock > round stock.
Yeah I have heard that too. It makes sense that the square stock is much easier to work with than the round, since you are making a flat object lol.
