Probably find the head node expands the further away you are.
Three new expansion packs have been announced for BF3! (Oh shit, I just remembered we have to pay for these ones now)
The one closest to release is called Close Quarters and will be released in June. The second is called Armored Kill and will be released some time in the Fall. The third and final pack for this year (and possibly the game) is called End Game and will be released in the Winter.
All expansion packs will bring new dogtags, assignments and consequently new weapons, along with the maps (most likely 3-4 maps). I expect each to be priced at $15US.
A brief overview of each expansion pack:
Close Quarters (Up to 16 players)

i like that theyre adding new weapons and vehicles with these maps. i dont think ive ever seen dlc for a multiplayer game actually add new weapons.
does anyone feel like there are a shit ton of weapons in this game? like, too many? one thing i really like about bad company is that each weapon has a unique feel to it, and i have a reason and situation to use each of them. whenever i play battlefield 3, i feel like a lot of the guns are interchangeable. maybe its just me, but i am totally overwhelmed by the number of weapons in this game.
I've seen a few, but none adding them for free alongside paid DLC. That's the best thing about this. Even people who don't buy the DLC can still participate in Assignments and unlock the new weapons for free.
Yes, no doubt there are a lot of weapons, but I feel that most serve their purpose well. Most assault rifles have a difference feel to them. I'd say that the M416 and M4 feel the most familiar to each other, but this should be expected since the M416 is a better, but similar design to the M4.
I feel like the Assault and Support classes have the most variation between weapons. For Assault there are weapons like the L85, AEK-971, AN-94, and the G3 that all have the unique feel and situation for where they would be used. L85 is a mid-long range weapon that doesn't fire fast enough in close combat. The AEK-971 works remarkably well in close quarters and medium range combat, but it's not that great for long range. The AN-94 has that special 2-round burst system that fires the two rounds before recoil is noticed. That is primarily for mid-long range again. G3 is an all round good assault weapon. The same sort of thing happens with the M249, M240, and the Type-88. M249 has the highest fire rate, but you can't hold the trigger down for long. The M240 has the highest damaging LMG bullet, but the most recoil. The Type-88 has a high initial recoil, but is the most controllable while the trigger is held and it has a decent damaging round as well.
Carbines are quite similar to each other. The G53 and the SG553 feel identical to me. There is some variation to this class with weapons like the SCAR-H, though. Bolt-action sniper rifles are mostly the same due to the ranges you are using it for with slight variations in bullet drop. Semi-Auto sniper rifles are mostly the same, but the M39 has a higher damaging round I believe. Battle rifles like the SKS and the QBU-88 give the Recon class a mid-range fighting chance as well. So that switches it up a bit, but both those battle rifles work differently as well.
I just like how they still have PDW's which let all classes be effective at close range. Close-range Recon is awesome on smaller maps since you can drop down spawn-beacons and deploy your team outside the killzone that is their own spawn (because they suck and can't push out of it).
