You're doing better than me. I have two rifles from about three years of ownership.![]()
You'll have better luck with Mosins on the second day of a gun show if there's one coming up in your area. People are desperate to get rid of them and they get almost down to wholesale price, which nowadays is $80-$90.
Also with the Mauser, ammo is drying up really quickly for those. 8mm Mauser surplus is so hard to find these days.
I got a shit ton of money from graduation (and the 7.62 was a gift from that) but I'm uninterested in spending it, and I'm thinking of getting rid of one of my mosin nagants (the 91/30 with the beautiful stock) to a friend and use half the money to buy a Yugo SKS I spotted for $200 at a gun shop.
E: And my FIRST Mosin Nagant that has a absolutely beautiful bright bore and shoots like a sniper was bought at a pawn shop (relating to your post tyrant) but funny thing was I never checked the bore and I knew jack shit about MN's then. It was a luck of the draw, a real lucky one.

Get the SKS and never look back. Yugo SKSes are starting to dry up and pretty soon the prices will start rising. The only new imports these days are cracked stocks and other minor damage deals. The excellent and very good condition Yugo SKSes are all but gone and soon we'll be getting shitty parts guns. The days of the $300 SKS are soon to be gone, at least until whoever controls the Russian surplus stores realizes they can start importing surplus guns again (Russia joined the WTO in December 2011 and one requirement for joining the WTO is to dissolve all voluntary trade restrictions with other nations in the WTO. Russia had several voluntary trade restrictions with the US regarding importing firearms and ammunition. tl;dr no Russian surplus ammo since 1998, and no of a lot of Russian rifles and all Russian handguns since 1998).
Chinese SKSes haven't been imported since 1994 and $300 for a commercial variant is a good deal, Romanian SKSes have all dried up and $300 is a good deal, Russian SKSes haven't been imported since 1998 and $400 is a good deal, Albain SKSes suck and the supply dried up in the 1990s so $800 is a good deal (they're crap shooters though), and as for Vietnamese, North Korean and East German SKSes...serious collectors only.
