Actually, all I use is a mouse and keyboard for flying. Set the spacebar to pitch up, Alt to pitch down, and try to keep your turning speed at around 310. Do barrel rolls and shift to the left or right slightly to get ahead of them. For unlocks just use rocket pods, air radar, and ir flares. Just focus on infantry, helos, and tanks till you get more unlocks. Jeeps are fun to take out too, especially jihad ones. Also look up some jet flying tips for extra success.

Don't need third person cameras or a spotter to help you.

Just need to be able to rotate the camera without losing control of the jet.

E: one thing though, i got a joystick specifically for flying helicopters in bc2, and its really not as good as youd think. the game seems optimized for flying with a mouse and keyboard. in addition, youll be MUCH more precise with your shots if you learn how to fly with the mouse, because you wont be physically restricted by the joystick.
Mouse is much better for helo. Joystick is superior for the jet. Best compromise for piloting is the Xbox controller.

Nope. Wireless PS3 controller over bluetooth using DS3 Tool to simulate XBOX 360 controller drivers

Mouse is best for choppers. Joysticks are not good for anything in BF3 due to the massive deadzone problems. Best compromise for piloting is the DualShock 3 over bluetooth.

Eh, I hate Playstation's controller layout. But yeah, I prefer controller for flying in BF3, period.
