An interesting historical fact about pirates; they were one of the first groups to fight against slavery and to abolish it amongst their ranks. They would free slaves and kill their slavers.
Withholding knowledge from a man due to his financial standing is just another form of slavery, a class system where the rich and/or otherwise powerful dictate the knowledge the poor are allowed to learn about.
