I'm thinking that it's a covenant portable turret, seeing as the Humans have one. It wouldn't be balanced if the humans had a very powerful weapons like that and the covenant didn't. It might also be a Spartan Laser counterpart (let's hope not).

anyways maybe its an anti aircraft fuel rod gun? or maybe a fuel rod gun with digital enhancements. so it would be like the H2 fuel rod cannon, while we still have the H1 fuel rod gun...

anti aircraft fuel rod gun

covenant version of spartan laser, like a plasma beam or somehting

needle cannon. shoots mass numbers of needles

perhaps a covenant flamethrower? (blue flames)

Bungie stated that the Fuel Rod Cannon and Fuel Rod Gun are two different weapons (though my guess is they wholly intended to replace the FRG with the FRC).

Really? The Fuel-Rod cannon was the name for the fuel rod gun in Halo PC's tagset, i believe.
