HL2 on nvidia gforce 7 series

Im currently attempting to play halo2 for vista on PC and so far Ive had nothing but crashes. I can get 15 seconds of gameplay max before it will crash (and 15 seconds is really pushing it). Then the game will close down. I far exceed the minimum system reqs so I know the problem isnt that. Ive gone round all the HL2 vista forums I can find and all the people that are reporting similar crashes all seem to be running on the nvidia gforce 7 series.

Im currently running on an nvidia gforce 7900 gtx. Is there anybody using a card on the 7 series that has successfully got the game to work, and is there any plans for patches/drivers that may soon be released if the problem is indeed the graphics card?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

ATM I'm running a 6600 LE and it runs quite well, but I'm getting a 8600GT pritty soon, unless i can get some more money together and get something even better.

My friend runs the same card as you (7900GTX) runs perfectly fine, actually better then fine, really well from what hes told me.

Turn off ALL your overclocks, and make sure you're up-to-date on drivers. I doubt its a "7-series" issues, a lot of people with 7xxx cards are running it perfectly fine.

EDIT: Also make sure that you installed normally, not with Tray and Play.

    EDIT#2, and remember, online, HL2 is normally Half-Life 2 :P

What driver version are you using? I find that on my SLI 7800GT system the 160.03 drivers work best (good performance with SLI profiles + stability).

Give 158.45 a try. It may be for the 8-series, but it sure works right on my 7950GT.

Dude def not the graphic card, right now I am using a 5900 and I can play multiplayer with just some bad graphics and some framerate lag. Soon I will be getting the BFG 7800

You have to use a modded .inf file to tell windows what cards it will work for.
