    Problem with Keyboard Setup

    Hello all,
I just installed Halo 2 a couple days ago and am having a problem editing the keyboard controls.
It has always been my preference in gaming to use the keys WEAF for left hand control. E = Forward, A = Back, W = Strafe Left and D = Strafe Right.
That way all fingers stay on the keys most of the time for quicker reaction with the thumb using spacebar for jumps.
I have become very much accustomed to this after using it for many years in Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc, etc.
The problem is Halo 2 will not let me set E as the move forward key. I've spent several hours trying everything I know and still no luck.
A popup box appears that says that key is in use, but if I put E in any other place other than move forward it goes in fine.
I checked every place that might have an editable setup like Quake 3 has with no luck.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Don

Your not the only one to have this problem, there seems to be a problem with mapping keys to keys that halo already uses, hopefully this issue will be resolved with a patch, unfortunately with have to play the waiting game until this happens .

I don't know how to make such a program.

    Thanks,

He was joking, but in seriousness just used the WASD keys like everyone else. In fact I bet if you would have tried instead of making this topic you would pretty much have it down by now.

    Re: Problem with Keyboard Setup

I had to remap numerous keys. I remapped crouch to 'c'but that was being used. so what i did was look for where it was being used and clicked delete on it. There we go, now i can change crouch to 'c'. I also had to change 'tab' to be switch weapon since my damn Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 doesn't have detents in the scroll wheel. Same thing for zooming, it's too hard to click down on the scroll wheel periwinkle since it moves in 4 other directions so I remapped zoom to the left button on the mouse where my thumb is. Oh, use the WASD keys, I have no idea how you can play with WEAD keys but you will find it much easier with.

Alright, I found a workaround for that whole not being able to remap E bug. Its certainly not the most elegant workaround, but if you use the "Southpaw" mapping as your starting point you should be able to get the WEAD setting you're looking for. Granted, you'll have to do more remapping in general to get the rest of the keys in the correct spots, but hopefully it'll work out.

    That did the trick!
    Thanks a lot,
