Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Yes they do, and that's also partly because it costs money to replace the standard-issue front sight on ARs with a flip-up one. It's not ideal. It would be different if you could use the irons as-is along with the scope, but you can't. Not on the DMR, and not on the M4 with the setup I think you are referring to.
The ACOG + Magnifier has a different argument going for it anyways in that you have the option to change magnification

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
I thought the whole point of co-witnessing was to maintain some kind of zero? If your using a scoped optic that you would have to adjust then why would you want to have the front sight up after you have found zero? I mean when adjusting for drop and such?

They purposely align the irons and combat sight in case the optical sight's batteries die. In some cases yes, it's to maintain a zero, but not always. Matter of fact, depending on what scope, mount, etc is used, depends on if it's upper 2/3rds, lower 2/3rds or absolute alignment. In any of the three cases, the scope and front sight are aligned.
E: i don't think the front sight is even as high as the optics on the DMR so this is all pretty much irrelevant anyways haha.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
So they released the list of achievements. Some of these seem pretty hard to do, which I like.

Complete the Warthog ride on the level “The Maw” on Legendary difficulty with at least a minute remaining on the countdown.
Not sure if I ever tried to do that or not...
Quote:
After activating the map in the level “The Silent Cartographer,” complete the rest of your mission without firing a shot on Heroic difficulty or above.
I wonder if you can just play co-op and get this, or if your team mate affects it?
Quote:
Kill all the enemies in the first encounter of the level “Truth and Reconciliation” without being detected.
I'm pretty sure I've done that before. If not, there's always Easy.
Quote:
Storm the Beach on the level “The Silent Cartographer” without losing any marines on Heroic difficulty or above.
Should be easy in co-op
Other than those, it should be easy to get 100% like in ODST (still working to get General in HW, 260k away -_-).

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
That's a pretty solid achievement list. Good job 343i.

Wow. Besides 'Grenadier' and the new content achievements, I can safely say I've done everything on that list at least once.
Christ I played Halo 1 a lot.

So you've gone through Two Betrayals without at least picking up a new Plasma Pistol and without killing Grunts. Those are almost knee-jerk things we do without thinking about them. Also, please share how you get over that rift in the tunnel on "Halo" without a Warthog. If I recall, it's too large to jump and too high to 'nade jump from the bottom.
Apart from the ones I just mentioned, the only other one I have not done is to go through the Library in less than 30 minutes. The Two Betrayals ones are gonna suck. They would pick the worst level of the game to put such achievements on.
Grenadier is going to be easy to do, just kill everyone before you hit the button and sprint back up to the top using grenades and melee only on the guys who spawn after. Normally, I just skip half the descent by dropping four stories using the Overshield trick and killing everyone on my way back up.
On the level AotCR, in all of the years I've spent playing Halo, I've ALWAYS managed to snipe that Elite who pilots the banshee before the letterboxes disappear. Even on Legendary. Not once have I ever missed. I love that. Also, the achievement for the killing of Wraiths should be to kill all 5, that one over the cave entrance is a bit tricky and people usually forget about it.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
As far as the one in A30, I just nade jump from the gap. It can be done, just takes time to try.

I never thought about jumping the gap using nades alone but what I did was park the hog in the gap, throw a nade into the passenger seat and jump over it. The explosion kicked me over with no problem.

Did that too. :P
But yeah, I'm the kind of guy who just does challenge runs like that instinctively. I've beaten Super Metroid with 5 missiles and no armor, and I'm working on a Mega Man X no upgrades run right now.
Hell, I once did a Halo 2 run whre I used nothing but dual wield weapons.

Haha, man, I forgot how many hours I spent playing Halo 1. God I loved that game. Got really excited to either play Halo 1 again or pick up this new game just by reading the achievement list, and seeing the names of all the old levels. Tough to find a better level than Assault on the Control Room.

The part on Delta Halo with all the Sniper Jackals must have been a pain in the ass.

It wouldn't be as bad as you think simply because the Snipers would be constantly interrupted by rapid fire. If you had two SMGs, then it's basically game-over of the Snipers. If you have two PRs, it's over for the Elites.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Hell, I've done that part with no kills whatsoever. The snipers in that part have scripted paths which override their awareness initially. There are many parts in H2 that you can actually just run through on legendary without any kills, if you do it 100% perfect, and with a bit of interesting assisted traversal methods (slide jumps, grenade jumps, etc) without going out of the intended gameplay boundaries.

Heh, nice. Personally, I hate dual wielding anything but Magnums and Needlers in Halo 2, but in Halo 3 I'm all about those SMGs and Plasma Rifles. Never tried doing a run with dual-wield only weapons.
I dunno, there's just something about combat in the first game that makes special compared to the others. It's almost like dancing because all the actions are so damn fluid. All of the others are just plain clunky by comparison.

Literally impossible since Zero gives you the gauntlet upgrade when he dies if you dont have them.

Halo anniversary has now gone gold.
Kinnect features have been announced, none of which actually needed the kinnect sensor only a microphone.

If they allow you to do motion capture with the kinect at some point, that's a selling point for me.

o.o Shiny... oh, and btw, to the people who bitched about the new animations... Suck it xD

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
I'm disappointed that they never gave a clear shot of the Wraith, since I really want to know what they've done to it. We know that the game is using the original animations in Anniversary mode, so using the Reach model as-is without any modifications wouldn't work too well... I hope they added the old style turret onto the Reach Wraith, but we'll have to wait for release to find out I guess.
Anyway, looks beautiful and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Actually, it looks pretty faithful. The only real difference I saw in anims was the bolt moves on the AR.

It requires the kinnect sensor's microphone.
All the kinnect functions are is shouting commands which should be easily done via headset but I suppose microsoft saw this as a way to push the kinnect.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
The Kinect has MS's speech recognition engine in it, which is why you can't just use a headset.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
That's obviously an older build given the AR, but the fact that I see a PC interface is making me wonder. However, the developers work on PCs too, so it doesn't really prove that a HA10 PC is a WIP at 343i.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Yeah, chances are that's just a debug pc build (so they can quickly iterate on content). The engine has always been able to run the game based on tags alone so I'm not holding my breath on a PC release just yet.

That would be High Noon (aka Hang 'Em High), and I must say that the map looks quite nice.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Is there local 4-Player Co-Op? They keep touting-up playing over LIVE, but I can't find out if we can still do local 4-Player Split Screen on two X-Boxes. I assume we can, since we've been able to do it since Halo 3, but if someone has a definitive answer, that'd be great.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
I read 2-player, not 4-player. And how the hell are you supposed to concentrate on objectives when you have huge vistas of the sky staring you down at every turn.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Halo 1 and 2, didn't. They just had good skyboxes. Halo 3 sort of pushed it, but Reach definitely overdid it. I still think that's a good thing. Better distracting than dull.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Halo 2 didn't have good skyboxes, it had AMAZING skyboxes. I spent a lot of time just staring at some of them... especially on Quarantine Zone.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Quarantine Zone also had an interactive skybox of sorts...I loved running through the Sentinel Factory after watching it crash to the ground.

Halo 1's Campaign isn't even remotely fit for 4 players.
Also did anyone else's BS meter go off when they said Analyze wouldn't work without kinect because there were no buttons for it?

So, who's doing their first play-through on Legendary?

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
i fucking second that D-pad thing for the encyclopedia kinect-only feature. and if im not mistaken, wasnt the scan visor D-pad left back in metroid prime? would be so fitting.
-
Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Wasn't the D-pad used for the visor mode in ODST as well? It is a bit crap that the feature is kinect only, but it's not like it'll add much to the experience. None of the achievements relate to it either, if you're into that kind of thing.
edit: At 42s into the BTS does it sound like frank says Hitler did instead of Halo did?

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
With less than a month until the highly anticipated release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Microsoft’s “Halo” studio, 343 Industries, recently unleashed some interesting news at New York Comic-Con. Among the tidbits is the return of the fan-fav multiplayer map Hang ‘Em High, details of the game’s Kinect integration, and the next evolution of Halo Waypoint. I’ve posted the details of these announcements for ya below.Hang ‘Em High Makes Its Triumphant Return in “Halo: Anniversary”
Announced at New York Comic-Con, High Noon, the stunning remake of the classic “Halo: Combat Evolved” map Hang ‘Em High, is set to make its glorious return in “Halo: Anniversary.” High Noon (also known as Hang ‘Em High in classic mode) combines a decade of poignant nostalgia with the adrenaline-pumping thrill of classic “Halo” multiplayer combat, to round out the cavalcade of seven fan-favourite multiplayer maps launching with “Halo: Anniversary.”
High Noon returns players to the familiar canyons and catwalks of Hang ‘Em High, now re-imagined for “Halo: Anniversary” with unprecedented detail. The vast generator complexes, which power this enormous slip-space portal, allow it to connect with an unknown number of locations across the galaxy. High Noon is a densely-packed arena of platforms, corridors and cover, best suited for team-based combat in both Slayer and Objective gametypes (4 – 12 players).
Uncover Rich Details about the “Halo” Universe through the Power of Kinect
Alongside the reveal of High Noon, 343 Industries also unveiled details about Kinect functionality in “Halo: Anniversary,” including voice commands and a new feature that lets players gather canonical information as they explore “Halo” and relive the iconic adventure:
•
Analyze Mode – Analyze Mode is a Kinect-exclusive feature that allows players to “scan” items of interest within the “Halo: Anniversary” campaign to populate the Library, an interactive encyclopedia of “Halo” lore. Once in Analyze mode, new articles of interest can be added to the Library by focusing the reticule on them and saying “Scan.”

The Library – The Library is an expansive index that provides detailed information on items of interest players have scanned through “Analyze Mode,” such as vehicles, characters, enemies and weapons. Through the use of gesture controls, players can explore the entire Library at any time and then return to the campaign to continue unlocking more secrets within the “Halo” universe.

Voice Commands – Harness the technology of Kinect for Xbox 360 to reload your weapon, throw grenades, switch seamlessly between Classic and Re-mastered graphics and more, using only your voice.
ATLAS Companion Experience and Custom Challenges Usher in the Next Evolution of Halo Waypoint
Halo Waypoint has been the ultimate destination for “Halo” fans on Xbox LIVE since 2009, and this past weekend, 343 Industries offered a sneak peak of what’s in store for the groundbreaking online service this Christmas:
•
New Halo Waypoint Interface – A revamped design and user interface lets players navigate Halo Waypoint and access the content they want more easily than ever before, whether they’re online, on their Xbox 360 or on their Windows Phone.
•
Halo Waypoint ATLAS – Available on Windows Phones this Christmas, Halo Waypoint ATLAS (Advanced Tactical Assault System) is a new mobile experience that offers players a detailed, top-down view of any “Halo: Anniversary” or “Halo: Reach” map in real-time, letting them monitor teammates’ movements and positions as they play. This innovative app encourages strategic gameplay and offers a fun companion experience to any multiplayer match.
•
Custom Challenges – Building upon the “Halo” series’ genre-defining user-creation toolset, 343 Industries is empowering the community even further by introducing Custom Challenges in “Halo: Anniversary” and “Halo: Reach.”
For the first time, players will be able to issue custom Challenges and create friendly competitions with Xbox friends, unlocking infinite creative possibilities to invent and test their “Halo” skills against one another.
For example, players can create a Challenge to get a specific number of headshots (say 50) in Multiplayer, within 24 hours. They can then try the challenge themselves, or invite their friends to give it a shot to see who can get the most headshots. Challenges can be created for Campaign, Matchmaking Firefight, Multiplayer and even Custom modes.
Players will also be able to earn “Halo: Reach” Credits by completing Custom Challenges, infusing new creative potential into the game’s deep player progression system, and leveraging all the great new multiplayer maps from “Halo: Anniversary.”

I don't think you understand.
HALO 1 HAD NO NETCODE. The PC version did, sure, but that's Gearbox's property last I remember and they trashed all their Halo stuff.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Of course Halo 1 had to have netcode. System link. It just didn't support the XBL protocol integration.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
yeah exactly, and either way HA10 is incorporating REACH multiplayer so if it came to the PC then it would have... REACH multiplayer.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
That would require porting two separate engines, however. At least that's how I understand it all so far. It's the biggest reason that I see a PC port of the whole game as being unlikely.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Wouldn't need to port two separate engines. MS won't make that mistake again.

I don't think you understand. H1 Xbox had it's own netcode. It wasn't very robust netcode (required all players to start at the same time, to keep in sync with the simulation), but it was netcode nonetheless. MS hired Gearbox to port Halo. MS still owns that work. As for Gearbox's networking code, they had to add an additional layer that allowed for players to join and drop mid-game without causing the entire game to end (plus add support for chat, rcon, etc, all PC related stuff).
Also, fuck punkbuster.

The Kinect enabled features sound cool and all, but it's really fucking gay that you can't use the Library without it. Especially since there's no way in hell I'm ever going to buy one.

My college lets people rent them out for free. So... I'm doin that.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Looks absolutely amazing, but it's still too bright and shiny on the dark horror levels... I don't know if I should get the game or not. I'd buy it for the campaign and play it with some of the friends that have never experienced Halo before.

Warthog wars are gone. Cya.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Yeah, they should have put in a switch to turn off turret overheating for HA10. H1 turrets had impervious barrels!

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
What? Turrets overheat now?
Part of the Halo multiplayer experience was drawing crude phalluses into the cliffside of blood gulch with the turret before you hit the decal limit and the bullet holes disappeared.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
In Reach...where the new MP maps/"experience" will be...and warthogs...and war...so yes, turrets overheat.
Blame MS for calling the new reach maps Halo Anniversary as well

No, no, Microsoft just likes to blur lines as usual and isn't differentiating between the actual HA10 maps and the Halo 1 maps ported to Reach.

Re: Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)
Wait, wut... The turrets dont overheat in the campaign which is the same engine as the original, and they do in the multiplayer maps which run on the Reach engine. :P I don't understand the confusion here...
