In the video game industry there are two main platforms for any game; computer and console. Consoles have ruled the gaming industry in the past, but recently computers have begun to rival, if not exceed the capabilities of consoles. This leads to the question,”Will consoles be able to keep their place as the most common gaming platform?” The answer is very likely a “No”.

I would like to refute your thesis; while computer specifications are currently rivaling those of consoles, the parts and equipment to upgrade those computers are still high in price.Quote:

The console isn't going anywhere because it is more simple and easier to use than a computer, which needs to be constantly upgraded with the latest hardware to be able to run the hottest games out there. In fact, it may be the multiple functions of a computer which would be its downfall; people simply don't view the computer as a gaming machine, and figure something which is 100% dedicated to a gaming/media center platform is better than something which serves multiple uses.
An example of this found in an unlikely source: Shampoo and conditioner. There is combination shampoo and conditioner out there, yet there also remains regular shampoo and regular conditioner, which dominate the market despite consumers having to spend twice as much to use them.
Why do they buy the separate shampoo and conditioner rather than the combination?
People feel that something which is dedicated to a single job will do it better than something which has to deal with multiple jobs. Simply put, people buy their shampoo and conditioner separately because they feel that each one of them will get the job done better than a shampoo with built-in conditioner.
As such, people will still buy consoles because their only purpose is for gaming, whereas PCs are deemed "inferior" to the casual observer simply because they have to run other processes as well.
