In the video game industry there are two main platforms for any game; computer and console. Consoles have ruled the gaming industry in the past, but recently computers have begun to rival, if not exceed the capabilities of consoles. This leads to the question,”Will consoles be able to keep their place as the most common gaming platform?” The answer is very likely a “No”.
Play4phlx: That's the thesis for the essay
Play4phlx: i rarely use spellcheck or anything else
Play4phlx: that's pretty much just me typing from skill

<PhillipDS> I remember when I was doing my first hospital practice on May this year, a 15 year old kid with phimosis and priaprism came into the ER, damn that must have been painful >_<
<gckc> permaboner and nothing to fuck in one's immediate surroundings
<gckc> why hast thou forsaken me, god of boners
<PhillipDS> and add the phimosis, whereas his penis was pulling but the skin was holding it back >_>![]()
I would like to refute your thesis; while computer specifications are currently rivaling those of consoles, the parts and equipment to upgrade those computers are still high in price.
When the prices fall, there will be a new console out there which will set the bar even higher for PC gaming to beat.
In addition, consoles are the game platform of choice for the 8-14 year old age bracket, which makes up a serious fraction of the gaming market. These kids need to beg their parents for money to constantly upgrade their computers, and the parents will more than often say, "No." These same parents have no qualms over paying $60 a year for online gaming simply because spending $60 for one year is more simple than spending $200 all at once for about 3 years.
These kids tend to not be as tech-savvy as those who play computer games, and thus would probably not even know where to begin to upgrade their computers.
In addition to this, we have the relative simplicity of consoles as compared to the computer as well as there being a shared "family computer" in most homes. If the kids were to take up as much time on the "family computer" as they do on their consoles, they wouldn't log NEARLY as much playtime as they would on their consoles just by virtue of the fact that they need to share the computer.
Split-screen and local multiplayer is also a lot harder on PCs than consoles, as the cables and hardware to hook up for a LAN party is much more complex than hitting a button and turning on a controller for a local multiplayer game.
While the teenage and young adult market does lean ever-so-slightly towards computer gaming, it is not a high enough fraction to say that the PC is going to dominate the console market.
The console isn't going anywhere because it is more simple and easier to use than a computer, which needs to be constantly upgraded with the latest hardware to be able to run the hottest games out there. In fact, it may be the multiple functions of a computer which would be its downfall; people simply don't view the computer as a gaming machine, and figure something which is 100% dedicated to a gaming/media center platform is better than something which serves multiple uses.
An example of this found in an unlikely source: Shampoo and conditioner. There is combination shampoo and conditioner out there, yet there also remains regular shampoo and regular conditioner, which dominate the market despite consumers having to spend twice as much to use them.
Why do they buy the separate shampoo and conditioner rather than the combination?
People feel that something which is dedicated to a single job will do it better than something which has to deal with multiple jobs. Simply put, people buy their shampoo and conditioner separately because they feel that each one of them will get the job done better than a shampoo with built-in conditioner.
As such, people will still buy consoles because their only purpose is for gaming, whereas PCs are deemed "inferior" to the casual observer simply because they have to run other processes as well.
Don't reply in this thread; integrate your counter-arguments into your THESIS, goddammit. I didn't mean for that to spin out of control the way it did, lol.
Yes, but what about Hoaers?
