Halo: Anniversary - The Halo 1 remake (fuck anyone who calls it "halo ce" remake)

Seeing as how the Anniversary maps were supposed to be utilizing the Title Update, some members were probably expecting the vehicles to behave the same way they used too. Removing the overheat on the warthog turret might slightly remedy the fact of how useless it is. Even still it does piss all damage and is inaccurate as fuck so its not like it was anywhere near useful to begin with. I like how the gauss hog is the only effective hog in reach and it barely appears in multiplayer.

We've already had the debate on how useless most vehicles are besides the tank (almost) so I'm just going to end that there.

Ten things:
1) Halo Reach Captain Keyes was much better than this one.
2) Halo 3 Cortana seems off and it looks like she derped a bit.
3) SYNC THE MOUTHS.
4) Baton boy looks like he's directing traffic at a downed stoplight in New York.
5) Johnson has a 'stache.
6) No Warthog crashes in the hangar (was hoping).
7) Everyone does look Asian.
8) Not sure if the new camera movements are better.
9) Even ten years later, those crewmen still can't type on a keyboard.
10) No sound when a half-ton super soldier drops twelve inches onto a solid metal floor.

343i was just doing what the retarded kids wanted, which is "OMG WE R DUN WUNT REECH KEYZ!!! IT R SO UGLEH!!" That's what you get when you listen to the retards...

Asides from that and the synch between voice and animation (which might be fixed already, let's hope), I have no complaints. Looks good.

I just looked at it, and the Reach one actually looked like Keyes...

Sarge always had a mustache and he looks pretty much how I picture him looking. Keyes is still too young and chiseled-looking. Oh well.

The eyes look Asian because you can't see a crease at the top and bottom of the eyelid. It might be a problem with the video's resolution not capturing that bit of texture detail.

He kind of looks like a demon of some kind...

It was a color depth problem of a black man with a blacker mustache. And it was a specular mapping problem that allowed the stache to be washed out by that lighting in that one ODST promotional shot where he's pointing.

What he had before is not 5 O'clock shadow -- 5 O'clock shadow is not confined to the upper lip. What you seem to be lamenting is that a 13-year old's 'tard 'stache has been replaced with something more intentional and respectable.

Honestly, I feel bad for anyone that has had the image of a clean-shaven Sarge in their brains for the past ten years. That is just so fucking lame an image. The guy was modeled after the Sarge from Aliens. How could he not have a commanding patch of facial hair?

Where's Keye's pipe in the updated cine, god dammit. Meh and is it just me or does Sgt. Johnson looking more like an older version of Eddie Murphy to some degree.

I don't expect Johnson to be a super model, but he doesn't need to look like a scraggly video game representation of Thurgood from The PJ's either.

I understand, it's hard to go from living in an alternate world where the Sarge from Halo has no or negligible facial hair to one where he has such a prodigious caterpillar growing on his face. You are most likely in shock. Elevate your legs and you'll be fine.

But really, that "caterpillar" has never more obvious than what it is now. Looking back, it was there, but it wasn't like a scraggly forest upon the upper lip of an aged face. Just a little shave and he should look like his old self.

You don't have a gravelly voice like that without the weathered face to back it up. I never thought his old visages really matched his voice or had any real character to them. They were crudely-rendered African-American boney skull-faces -- as opposed to the crudely-rendered light-skinned boney skull-faces that made up the rest of the human characters.

I seem to recall 343i only ever talking about a "publishing team" within 343i when it comes to HA10, and it's obvious the rest of the studio is busy doing something or another relating to H4. Be it taking a dump or flushing a dump.

Keyes looks too young, Cortana should be more like the way she used to be.

I'm positive it was an older build though. Cortana doesn't look right in terms of her mouth and there are easily noticeable shader issues (Sarge's armor for instance). Lodex does some of the finest work in the community, is among the few to have attracted Bungies attention. You should be grateful that his work ethic has helped get this community attention and created kick ass maps.

I think the only thing 343i had to do with this game was the gameplay aspect as well as skulls, Terminals and all the little new things like that. Even then, it was a very small team at 343i that was working on that. Graphics and animations was all Saber, which does include Tech and Assets, as you can see in the Behind the Scenes video.

And that is practically all I have to say on the matter, accept it or don't doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I hope this is an older build and they put more work into Keyes. The facial animations look like a first pass and are the biggest problem. But like I said earlier, the face doesn't match the voice. Pete Stacker has a very nasally smoker's drone. There's no way Keyes should look that spry and healthy for his age. A buzz cut on a man in his 50's should reflect thinning hair and a slightly retreating hairline. Thin out his lips, rough up his jawline, simultaneously add puffiness and sunkenness to the area around his eyes and cheeks. A slight turkey neck wouldn't hurt.

Excellent, it was so much fun finding skulls in Halo 3 and this should make it even better.

As long as there aren't any with esoteric requirements like the IWHBYD skull, sounds good to me.

The skulls were easy as piss to find in Halo 3. They were fun in Halo 2 though.

None of Halo 3's skulls were that hard imho. Sounds like good news anyway, though.

To find or to get? IWHBYD wasn't figured out until a someone from the modding community looked at the scripts for that level or whatnot.

I still plan on reverse engineering their locations and how to get to them, however, I'm avoiding another pelican-gate incident and just keeping them to myself. At least then people can find them the way they want to find them (but, tbh, they should just stay off the internet or stay away from walkthroughs at that point).

There's a few token places though, the room the infinite healthed marines spawn at if you kill keyes, on top of the silent cartographer, at one of the three pulse generators when playing through AoTcR, the grunt on the maw run, the lift that blows up on 343, etc. Unless they're going to go crazy and have us jump through hoops for all of them, which would suck.

I would be surprising if Chad didn't sit one of the skulls on top of the furthest tower in Halo where you need to launch warthogs to get to.

If there are achievements for getting them they won't be anywhere hard. The casuals still need to be able to do it after all.

Halo; under waterfall, inside beam tower, on top of metal support beams near the Tunnel Of Cortanas Derp (you know the one), on top of beam tower as per glitch thing (but not likely)
Truth and Reconciliation; could be anywhere, really. No ideas.
Silent Cartographer; On top of island is the only place I can think of.
Assault On The Control Room; on top of control room spire (near SOM easter egg), on the cliffs near the first bridge, down the hole you start in (you can get down there with enough patience to push the banshee through tunnels).
343 Guilty Spark; Anywhere...
The Library; Don't know this godawful level very much :saddowns:
Two Betrayals; Similar possibilities to AOTCR, except with pulse generator rooms.
Keyes; Well, i'd say in the hangar with the broken floor and the health pack (I KNOW you've all made it before), otherwise anywhere, maybe a grenade explosion to knock it down from one of the cliffs where flood camp?

That's because at least our little part in the community expects a good-quality standard, especially with all the stuff 343i has been spewing out of their mouths. The moment something falls under the minimum, we have the reserved right to voice our opinions until they fix it. The designers seem that they are more interested in stuffing the game with useless content (Kinect, Analyze) rather than listening to the opinions of millions of fans. The only reason we have anything that looks as though it improved is because the 343i boys looking over Saber Interactive’s shoulder said “Fix it.”

Nah, he still looks like crap to me, but it's hidden a bit due to the lack of closeups, the low resolution, and apparently how non-cinematic bipeds use the old mouth animations so the bass-mouth/Steven Tyler effect isn't as apparent.

See, H1 Sarge has so much machismo that he shaves with a trench knife and the bile of his enemies. As one can imagine, this makes it difficult to accomplish the fine lip grooming that would be required to maintain the Hitler/John Waters hybrid that he appeared to have in older games. Due to this, the Halo 1 Sarge would have left that whole area alone and let it grow out naturally, because fuck it.

Halo 2/3 Sarge, however, probably has half of his personal effects dedicated to lady's BIC razors, so he would have no such difficulty.

I think it's safe to say that Halo Combat Evolved/Custom Edition are really what brought most of us together. The countless hours of tinkering with the engine, countless hours making the perfect forerunner texture for a floor, the countless hours that went in to making the worst map just to learn how things went together, and the hours that went in to creating a forerunner structure that would fit the Halo Universe like a glove. And I think on top of that, it gets annoying to watch a company start butchering a classic, just so that they can make an extra dollar and roll in the new crowd. I think it's also a matter of 343i not being Bungie. And as much as they want to stay true to the Halo Universe, they have their own team with their own art style.

I for one am looking forward to playing it, but it won't ever replace what Combat Evolved and Custom Edition were to me.

I think it's also fair to say that Bungie mailed it in when it came to human faces until they finally decided to update their production pipeline for Reach. So, it is kind of silly to be attached to things they did badly.

Is anyone going to walk up to Nathan Fillion or Tricia Helfer and ask them why they don't look all fucked up like they did in ODST? And they were trying their damnedest to make those characters look right. They iterated like crazy on them. The ODST team must have been so jealous of the Reach team and their fancy ZBrush-ed head sculpts.

ah ha! they brought back that grunt death sound effect that was in the standard assets for the original game, but had a permutation setting of 0 or something so it never played.

The issue only comes in when people complain about complaining, thus the people who complained in the first place have to justify their complaints to the critic critics.

It's all intensely idiotic, paying customers have every right to complain about the products people are selling them. If nobody ever complains, nothing gets changed. Pooky, I think you missed my point, its not wrong for a paying customer to criticize. I agree with you there. What bothers me is in the case of this community, something as insignificant as the size of someones mustache somehow is cause for 5 or 6 pages of debate. Its just completely fucking ridiculous.

It's also typically the smallest details that bother me (as well as a good many others here) the most. Where were you 4 years ago? This was and usually is a weekly occurrence. I bitch about what I don't like. The kicker is I understand and respect the point of view Burke is coming from. I don't agree with it but I understand it. Agreeing to disagree as it were.
