Sausage-making answer is that Mark VI amor is as much to do with a graphical generational leap as anything else. Canonical reason is that armor aesthetics are secondary to purpose - hence MP variants, etc.
The Booster Frames are EVA specific purpose machines cobbled together for a very black ops mission and are purpose built to do a single task.
Yes. A few. Cool ones.
Some of these sound interesting... Also I totally called a story involving the Spartan children.Quote:

Eight pieces, seven episodes. That make sense?
1. 4C's History piece - 2 parts.
2. Bones "Prototype" piece
3. Casio/Aramaki's Spartan/Space battle stuff
4. Toei's shenanigans
5. I.G's Duel (Elites around the time of the Prophet alliance)
6. I.G's exploration of the Spartan "recruitment" tragedy (kidnapping, etc)
7. 4C's ODST/Spartan rivalry

4C is doing two episodes, "Origins" (a two-parter) and another tentatively titled "Babysitter." The first is a telling of the entire history of the Halo-verse from the perspective of a mystery character. It won't be Master Chief. It could be the Gravemind or a Forerunner (our best guess). It doesn't sound as if the perspective will jump from one character to the next, so the retelling of the Forerunners up through Halo 3 would require someone with knowledge of every event. It's certainly an epic story. And in the new trailer, you see Master Chief frozen in stasis. It does go there. O'Connor told us there are characters people have never seen before and some appearances that might prove surprising. "Babysitter" examines the interactions between ODSTs and Spartans. The rivalry will be fully explored and there should be a lot of tension. Though O'Connor wouldn't name a specific date the episode takes place, he said it is several years before Halo 1.
Ok, of all of them this is the only one that sounds really abhorrent. At the very least it may be fun.Quote:
The TOEI episode may garner the most grumbling from the community. This is the one episode that is clearly not canonical. TOEI does over-the-top kid-oriented anime like Dragon Ball Z. 343 encouraged TOEI to go all out and be as zany and madcap as they wanted. The reason for this episode, according to O'Connor, is that many Halo fans are parents. But Halo is very much a mature-themed game and its side content (comics, novels and no anime) are also meant for an older crowd. This is the episode that parents can share with their kids. It stars Spartan 1337. If you laughed at that, you are prepped and ready to watch this episode. The episode is appropriately titled "Odd One Out."
:tehlag:Quote:
The episode from Bones is truly for mech geeks. Aramaki, who did designs for Macross and Mospeada, designed the experimental power-armored suit showcased in this episode. A marine has been sent to a distant planet to destroy this powered armor, but when he arrives he finds the planet is still inhabited by humans who are under siege by the Covenant. The suit is their only hope for survival. So he disobeys orders and keeps that suit -- at least temporarily -- the help the civilians. Ichiro Itano is responsible for the classic "missile dance" featured in the Macross Saga. In fact, it's called the Itano-Circus. One of his three disciples, Yasushi Muraki, directed this episode. He knew that Aramaki could make a brilliant design for the power armor and indeed he did. These two collaborators bring what is described as "mech porn" to the Halo universe. Expect a firefight like you've never before seen in any Halo game.
Cool enough.Quote:
Production IG is doing two episodes. The first, "Homecoming" is in a more traditional style. It's about Spartans coming to terms with their origins (flash-cloning, being kidnapped at a young age, etc.). Some of this was explained in the Fall of Reach novel, but this will explore some different territory. The star is a female Spartan. Yes, a lady.
The other is "Duel" done in an interesting watercolor style. This tells the story of the Elite as they are first interacting with the Covenant. O'Connor likened it to the first time Japan met with Portugal. Japan was an isolated, insular society and that radically changed after that point. And so two are the Elite, who get swept up in all the Covenant craziness. And there are brutes in samurai helmets.
Casio Entertainment is doing the full CG episode title "The Package." It's possible this story will also be broken into two parts (making for seven stories and nine total episodes). We don't know what "The Package" is, but it's being delivered by a group of Spartans. This one features some amazing space battles. We were able to watch a few minutes of these battles and it's truly a sight to behold. The Spartans can be seen flying Booster Frames, which are small, lightly-armored ships that look a bit like a cross between an X-Wing and a Speeder Bike.
This story comes from the writer of Cowboy Bebop. Though the first half has a lot of air combat, there's quite a lot of action in the belly of the Covenant ship. Expect some gun and hand-to-hand battles. As was seen in the debut trailer, Master Chief squares off against an Elite in a plasma sword duel.
I am still very disappointed by and wary of the episode length.
Wasn't it specifically stated in Halo 2 by Regret or Truth (can't remember which) that the covenant was formed at the end of the Prophet/Elite war once the prophets discovered the forerunner's "great journey"?Quote:

And weren't brutes a relatively new addition to the covenant by the time of the Halo series?
am nerd ragen
Callin' it right now, Bones is going to have the best one. :realsmug:
After watching the trailer, I take back what Ive previously said saying I'd love anything Halo.
The anime is butchering what Halo is truely about. I dont want the story to be covered in candy so kids will think its adorable and love it. Thats not what Halo is about, survival, its gritty, horrific and desperate, anime will never be able to portray that.
Slow down there Limited. Microsoft word spell check has found a few problems with your post!
No idea how you gathered that it will be like that.Quote:
I dont want the story to be covered in candy so kids will think its adorable and love it.
This is the funniest part of your post. Why? Its as if you're making a statement that not only has no backing and is completely based on bias, but also completely ignores the several anime that portray those exact same qualities infinitely better! Good thing that wasn't a real post!Quote:
Thats not what Halo is about, survival, its gritty, horrific and desperate, anime will never be able to portray that.
Seriously though, the places where Halo truely is compelling is in its art, music, and gameplay. Even there Halo doesn't beat too many good anime. Its plot and characters are nothing special as well, so that certainly doesn't help.
Now for the third issue. You pulled that entire judgement out of the trailer. Welp.
E: I do agree though that it should be a bit more gritty and doesn't seem entirely like Halo in its themes. It was more so the second part of the post that brought up my nerd rage. Lol.
Yes my post is 100% bias, that doesnt mater one bit, why? Because these are being made for the fans. If for some bizarre reason they are made for general people who might not be fans, then that just confirms my sugar coating beliefs.
You complain to me that I am bias, yet your sig and avatar is 100% anime.
My statement has no backings? I watched the bloody trailer. I've seen the "promotional" materials. Its not being true to the story. Since when have you see MC flying, no gliding through the air with such grace? No where, apart from poorly thoughtout anime.
If it fully fits the Halo series, then I will accept it, if it was an animated graphical novel I would be praising it. Anime however, is completely different and I believe will not suit the Halo style one bit, it will dumb down the seriousness and the true despair that occurs in the story.
If your going to expand on a story, that has been around for years. They need to stay true to the series and true to the style of story telling for the series.
I wasn't really defending Halo Legends, I was more so defending anime in general.
I was more so responding to
which has no backing.Quote:
anime will never be able to portray that.
Edit: I think we might be on a separate page here. I assumed that when you posted you meant that anime wouldn't be able to portray those separate qualities qualities well. If you mean that anime won't be able to portray the Halo universe, I may not 100% agree with you, but I understand that.
Its like if the teletubies were to do a drugs campaign. You might take it in, but at the end of the day, its still the teletubies right?
I think its aparent that I'm not a fan of animies, I just see it making the Halo series look like a fool, look very childish. Because at the end of the day the majority of animie is childish.
Is.. is limited taking halo's plot... seriously?
somebody hybridise :lmao: and :suicide: into an emote which applys to this situation, gogogo.
Limited, you're acting as if you know exactly what you're talking about. Do you have all of the information to make a claim about majorities, or are you just accepting the "anime is for kids" stereotype brought fourth to you?Quote:
Because at the end of the day the majority of animie is childish.
If you want I can list anime aimed for mature audiences.
WRONG SIR. A majority of it is grim, and not suitable for little childrens. I just think they picked the wrong studios to do this. Anime can be very well-done, or it can butcher awesome stuff. In this case, I think it might do the latter, but I will reserve my judgement, because I am a fan of well-made anime...
Oh god, Limited thinks the majority of anime is for kids? That's priceless XD
Mainstream anime has been saturated with childish anime that has taken the true essence of anime away. Its the editing and dubbing that really strikes me as the core of what I class as childish.
Um no, childish doesnt always mean kids. Why were cartoons invented? To help adults express their "childish" thoughts but some was also aimed at children, wasnt the whole reason but it was one contributing factor.
You fail to realise that what is mainstream in our sheltered Western lives is by no means mainstream in the birthplace of the genre.
So you're judging all anime based on what people make mainstream in America?
This is precisely the point, we are getting false idologies shoved down our throats that isnt true to the source material (true original anime).
Cant you see why this Halo legend thing links in? It would just be another iteration of the maze of anime.
In my opinion when western ideas meet eastern art, the end result is unappealing to me. I.e. the trailer for Halo legends, and its not even something I can put up with, like say to myself, I'll put up with the shockingly bad front just to hear the story. I just cant, it wont be Halo anymore.
No, I have no idea what anime shows they have in America. All I know is the ones here are very poor and poor representation.
I do remember one anime show I loved when I was a kid. It was about some boy who lived on a planet, wasnt earth but it had grass and trees and everything. Cant remember the name, they had weird hair like a pom pom.
Ah, I didn't mean America, I just wasn't thinking, I meant other parts of the world.
Well yes, I obviously know theres alot more to anime that just the stuff us westerners see. However Japanese anime is designed for Japan, not westerners, hense the big cultural shock for me and is a reason I detest the artwork. Well not the artwork, its more of the animation style. If it was a single frame drawn out then yes I would love the picture.
You're basically taking the route against this, just as a child would while their parents are trying to get them to eat their vegetables, after the child ate some disgusting rotten vegetable or seaweed or something else; "I DON'T WANNA BECAUSE IT WILL TASTE GROSS JUST LIKE THAT _____"
For one, just like the child, you won't know until you try it; or in this case, watch it. Two; how are you supposed to take in physics with the "NO ONE CAN GLIDE LIKE THAT," when Master Chief had a bomb blow behind him, giving him a huge boost, entered the earth's atmosphere, and crash into Africa without so much as a concussion.
Just because anime was started up and has its roots in Japan, doesn't mean it's just for Japan. Just because Coldplay/U2/(insert euro band that hit it big in America) came from Europe, doesn't mean they're just for Europeans. And you know what? I'm quite sure the animation done in Japan is done a single frame at a time more often than the shit on Western television right now.Quote:

I don't like anime in general. There are 2 things essential to ANY story: plot and art. And anime fails on both accounts.
- The plotlines are ALWAYS confusing, IF they make any sense at all. I was watching an anime one time about a guy who talked to a girl at school over some Instant Messenger. They both liked each other, and so it seemed like they would get together. Then the guy goes to some Japanese holiday's special fair/festival thing, finds some random girl who had no connection to the story and was never mentioned before, and starts to date her. The end. It was like the whole half-hour of stuff which happened before the final scene even mattered. And don't even get me started on this whole S.O.S. brigade thing, which STILL confuses the fuck out of me. Also, I just can't believe that the guy is seriously using a sword twice the size of him with any kind of accuracy. You ever try to swing a sword which is 12 feet long? It doesn't go over well.
- The artwork always feels lazy. They repeat the exact same 2 frames over again to represent someone talking, when it's just someone opening and closing their mouth. The characters in the background don't even MOVE. The cars are stopped at a green light. The people are frozen in mid-step. It's like they're walking in a street full of statues. It seems like someone slapped it together as fast and as cheap as possible to make a quick buck.
Long story short, I may like Hentai, but I don't like anime.
Anime IS not Halo.
English Mobster, two things back.
- Just because you don't understand the storyline doesn't mean its that confusing. Even when they are confusing, they really aren't that hard to understand. Just put a little thought into it. :ugh:
- You're overgeneralizing. I'm not even going to make a response longer than that.
Limited, a very large portion of Japanese anime plots and themes have roots in European history...just thought I'd toss that out.
English Mobster
1. Not true. Last Exile wasn't confusing. Blue Submarine No. 6 wasn't confusing. Akira makes sense, and so does Princess Mononoke. You just can't jump in during the middle of an arc, that's all...and you shouldn't be doing that with any story really. S.O.S. Brigade is not one of the better animes, actually. I think it's shit, tbqh. Also, the plots are thicker and more intriguing than most Western stuff...the only Western TV programmes I can think of that twist it up as much as anime does are Torchwood and Doctor Who, and both of those are set in the same universe (kudos to BBC for this, just watched Children of Earth and it was riveting).
2. I cede the point about lip motions. Then again, videogames did the same thing for awhile, so do a lot of western cartoons, and the lip motions are made more for the Japanese language than for English (since we all seem to speak it here). As for statuesque backdrops, I can't remember the last time I saw that...maybe it was in Pokémon, but that isn't exactly definitive either.
Uh I have tried it, which is why I posted saying I don't like it.
I never said it was unrealistic I said it wasn't very Halo. There are certain physic laws that apply to Halo.
Not everything adapters to everyones taste.
Cool, so a diff animator for each episode?
badass.
If they used Ghost in the Shell mechanics, then it would work. That would actually fit very well in the Halo universe. Gundam mechanics or anything flashy, forget it.
listen, at the end of the day, it may or may not suck...we're gonna have to watch in order to see for ourselves
cant wait to see grimace beat the crap out of that leet spartan though, hopin toei throws in a guitar or two xD
Lol, "if I can't understand it, it's too confusing." Don't blame mental inferiority on anime. :realsmug:
On a more serious note, you're generalizing all of anime by the (what it sounds like) very few you have seen. Stop it, you are only looking stupid. I can agree that there shouldn't be a Halo anime, and I think this shit will suck, but don't say anime is stupid just because it doesn't have an overly simple plot and because older anime re-used frames to save money.

Wow, amazing modelling reference. You can see all of the detail and depth of the detail easilly, this can help when modelling the MC. Think I will save it.
Toon shaders always brought out the details in models. Gotta find out what they used to render that.
Point 1: Ever heard of filler episodes? Sometimes animes get random episodes that play little or no part in advancing the story line. Usually this is because there's a manga or something that goes along with it and fillers are used to keep the show from advancing plot wise ahead of the manga. Other than that, there are some animes out there with amazing storylines. Deathnote anyone?
Point 2: Not all animes are like this. You can't judge a whole group just based on 1 show.
Deathnote had an "amazing" storyline?
I could model from it. Some parts might not be able to.

Um, wth @ 3 picture.
MC would never stand in a field of flowers, looking at some random person holding a teddy bear. I cant remember that occuring anywhere in the storyline, or anything remotely close.
This is what I didnt want to happen.
Okay well who ever the heck it is. Point still stands.
1) We don't know that's the MC. In fact, it's been stated that the story in question is about another Spartan entirely confronting her abduction to join the program.
2) Why wouldn't he? Of course you can't remember this happening, why would they want to retell a story they've already told? God forbid they should take your precious testosteronefest and give the Spartans some semblance of humanity.
3) Given that it's on the poster that represents the entire episode, I think we can make a pretty educated guess that it's not exactly a "random" person.
Still doesnt explain the field of flowers.
I understand these are to explains bits of Halo we havent seen. But they need to be realistic encounters that follow the story, not reinvent it.
...What is there to be explained about a field of flowers? It's THERE. Is the Halo universe not allowed to have flowers or something? Has there been some material that I've missed that said "oh yes by the way there are no flowers on any planets anywhere they are all gone"?
I really, REALLY do not see how adding a story about a Spartan completely independent of the MC and completely independent of the games is "reinventing" the storyline.
iirc thats a girl bro.
See, flowers are these things, kind of like plants.
They exist when you go outside.
Or at least outside your comfort zone.
Uhh....where might you have seen them...
Okay, the map Valhalla has flowers EVERYFUCKINGWHERE.
Halo isn't devoid of flowers fyi.
And anyways, I think this is gonna be a confrontation within the mind.

I hate that picture and the scene its from.
it makes me worried.
This entire anime shit has me worried.
I just hope its going to be OK. Can't be much worse than the HGN, right? Right?
yes like how it messed up _, and then when _ and _ happened, the anime totally fucked over everything
Of everything that I don't like that they're doing, I really don't see how being an anime is specifically responsible for it, with the exception of the Samurai Elites - though the more I think about it (consider their Honor Guard armor) the less I am opposed to it.
The Arbiter armor certainly has a samurai-ish look to it. Frankly the whole Elite social structure and everything about them seems to be derived from Japanese culture. I just don't get why everyone is making a fuss, it seems to work, it's just never been visually represented. Seems like everyone has a certain image in mind as to how they want things to be rather than what is canon or what is going to be shown as canon, which is ridiculous really.
From what I've read, the Elites have a feudal society-- same as Japan during the time of the samurais. The honor guard armor has very clear samurai influence--Not sure how the Arbiter's armor fits in. Looks too metallic; if I had to make a guess of its origins I'd say forerunner but that would require some retconning as far as I know.
So is this going to be like... an Animatrix thing? Cause, aside from a few episodes, the Animatrix was awesome.
Yeah, but point out one anime that has absolutely none of the typically Japanese themes and/or stuff that the Japanese would balk at but stupid white kid weeaboos go for. This is Halo, not some tale about Samurai warriors, giant mechas, or pre-teen girls.
Everyone and their mother had a feudal system back then, dude, and they still had way different cultures to Japan.
This guy has never seen Death Note, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo or any Miyazaki films...? Only reason I can see for this blanket hate over the direction these shorts are going for.
Stop watching shit like Bleach or other anime bullshit. (Dragonball Z, Code Geass, Gundam: Seed, One Piece, Naruto...) Just to name a few shitty animes I've had the displeasure of deciding to watch. Maybe a slight exception to DBZ, it was cool when I was young.
^This. Seriously Ross, go watch Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell before you make those kinds of sweeping generalizations. Anime isn't all OMGKAWAII~ shit. I personally avoid that crap.
Judging from your attitude, i don't think you'll like Death Note, Samurai Champloo, or even some of the miyazaki films, since you don't seem like the sort of fantasy-type storylines. Not to say that Death Note is a fantasy type anime, but it borders on ludicrous sometimes.
I don't watch any anime at all, and I'm not about to start.
Looking at what's been shown of this, it took me all of two seconds to figure out I didn't like what was being done with the Halo name just to try and give the fans something else to drool over. I'm sick of what was a good game being milked to the point where I barely even want to defend it anymore, it's completely sold out and the whole Halo universe has just gone to absolute shite.
I give no shit how diverse it is, because plainly they're taking the Halo universe and taking it places it doesn't belong.
Not just because of these, but they aren't helping. I dunno about you, but fields of flowers and blonde-haired teenage girls aiming pistols at each other doesn't really make me think of Halo.
Then again, I'm one of those horrible ignorant ANTI-ANIME MONSTERS so obviously any and all concerns I have for what they'll do to the PROPER Halo universe are utterly void
Well, of course it isn't going to make you think of Halo...you don't know the backstory to the image yet. :downs:
What if you had the same image with them holding M1911s or Webley revolvers instead of M6Ds, and it was a WWII thing. It's not going to make you think of WWII, now is it?
If they were still teenage girls? No.
If they were soldiers? Yes.
I don't have high hopes for these shorts, but I'm just keeping an open mind here: It's probably like one of those things where it's a symbolic vision or whatever. It's not an actual event...=|
I still don't really see where it'd fit in at all, symbolic or not.
i'm pretty sure WE ALL KNOW this is microsoft squeezing a franchise for every dollar they can get.
It isnt anime.
It's microsoft and as kornman once said
"it's not polite to ask the monkey why the zoo keeper makes him pat his head and rub his tummy at the same time <>"
can we drop that shit now.
i think 180 replies is enough OF THE SAME POSTS.
find something else to talk about or i'll lock the thread.
Looks good to me you sour pusses.
Ok look, I'm just going to put my two cents out there.
If each production studio is completely in charge of their own work, this has the potential to be good. Although Microsoft certainly sees this as just another way to milk the franchise, I think that at least a few Japanese production companies, namely Bones and 4C, see it differently. The reason being that BONES and 4C don't make mainstream shit anime. [/opinion]
but what i was getting at was hating it ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS ANIME.
i've gotten over hearing the exact same arguments tbh, and i think it's time to let that shit go.
Agreed.
Crazier things happen in the books and games. There's MC jumping from the keyship on some scrap of metal, and of course, the Covenant space pickle from Halo 2.
I think we now know why so many people died in such a short time.
They all commited suicide after learning about this bullshit in advance...
btw give me a straight choice between doing nothing and watching anime (one of the more sensible ones) and i'll pick the latter so it's not like i hate this for that reason alone, i hate what anime does to some people and i hate the more ridiculous ones but my beef with this is that they just look like they're taking the halo story and adding in loads of shit that shouldn't be there. if they'd stuck to the canon as laid down by bungie and/or the books, it'd be fine by me (except the obvious milking)
Microsoft just wants to destroy Halo, the end is near.
... so what? Seriously, that one picture can be interpreted 1,000 different ways. You've just chosen to interpret it as something unfavorable.
Here's all you can see in the image:
A green hill with flowers and a spartan standing on it; some person handing another person a mini teddy bear on a string.
Hell, it might even be symbolic for the story of the short, which we have no idea about at this time.
So exactly how many favourable interpretations are there?
Plenty.
I could go on and draw many interpretations, but doing that would be useless; Why don't we just hold back our judgments until the damn thing comes out?
It's a memory. A flashback. Present-day representation of the character finds herself taken back to a memory, so you see her standing there watching it. Forgive me for this shitty reference, but it's a bit like the Pensive from Harry Potter.
