That's not the way it works. Although the would have been A40 would have explained to the player what the halo is and would have taken place on a volcano.

elaborate how you know said level existed\took place on a volcano.
Halo 3 Legendary Edition bonus disc. On there it has every cutscene from Halo 1 and 2 with commentary by Joseph Staten, Marty O'Donnel, and Jason Jones.
It's a very interesting commentary, actually. Like on the level where Arbiter was going to kill all the Heretics, the Heretics were going to be Hunters instead of Elites.
Then someone pointed out that wouldn't be very fun.
Oh, and Miranda Keyes originally was going to strap a nuke to MC's back and send him on a suicide mission to blow up the Gravemind.
Why MC?
Because he punched her dad in the face in Halo 1.
Needless to say... It didn't make it in. Someone said that Jason had just been through a bad relationship when he wrote that.
i need this disc.
Ebay, 300 dollars.
I told you I don't trust those sites.

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
On a serious note:
Are you guys doing custom portals for these maps, or using the stock ones and adding to them?
Bungie is far better at portals than us. They're bsps use their original ones, our new bsps obviously have our own.
What are you referring to when you say "portals" there? The green teleporters, or a way that the game moves the player?
portals are what make it so the game engine only renders what you see, (if set up correctly) to help performance.
Ahh. Thanks for that.
Edit for thought: So that's what the source engine sucks at doing?
OT: When you "go" through a "portal", does that involve all enemies and items in said area? And also are there seperate portals for dropped weapons compared to geometry ones?
Try running around a multiplayer map with wireframe on to see how portals work.
Ok I'll do that. What's the command for wireframe in singleplayer?
Exactly the same as multiplayer.

Hey, that doesn't look half bad!
Nice! Higher-poly ftw!
Also, holy crap low poly fail! :P
He knows. He's just saying the original fails.
Oh, speaking of Marines, I have one suggestion.
On "343 Guilty Spark", there is a lone marine who has a pistol and is shooting at you. On the H3 Legendary edition commentary, Bungie said they were originally going to make it so when the player passed the marine (assuming he didn't kill him) and entered a trigger volume in the room just on the other side of where the marine is, he would hear a lone pistol shot. If the player went back to the marine to see where the shot had come from, the marine would be dead and there would be a blood splatter on the wall indicating he had taken his own life.
They removed it because they thought it might be "too graphic" (AND BLOWING UP MC WITH A NUKE ISN'T?), but I always thought it would be fucking awesome to have in there.
You guys have the source scripts, and it would be an easy enough thing to add, so do you think you can add a trigger volume and throw the extra 3 lines of script in there? That would be fucking awesome.
That would be really cool. I always felt that that scene was creepy, but lacking something. That extra touch would be brilliant.
Bungie was VERY hard-pressed when it came down to making halo 1. They had a PC/Mac engine, then got bought out by microsoft, but they didn't get the devkits until December 2000. This gave them only 8-9 months to finish the game.
I'm pretty sure the faces were low poly because 9 years ago consoles weren't capable of what they are today. : |
Wait so Halo 2 on xbox also looked just as bad?
I remembered when masters constantly repeated that the Halo1 marines looked perfectly fine. Pppfffssshhh
Half-Life 2 was pretty high poly for it's time. :<
At above poster: Yeah, I find it funny because he was the one who asked me to do it.
The suicidal marine in Halo 3 actually aims the gun at his head, but then lowers it again and then it just loops it.
That is a much nicer looking marine than the 9 year-old shit the game has.
That helmet looks a bit too much like a rebel X-wing helmet for my tastes.
The wrists are also too skinny.
I'm pretty sure the H3 helmet is a little thinner than that one.
Are you sure about that?

If it is a recreation of the Halo 3 helmet, they so need the glasses. :iamafag: [/sarcasm]
I think that pic is just at a bad angle, it takes in the whole side of the helmet too, so it looks larger than it actually is. But I could be completely wrong. :D
It would look better if you modeled the eye thing and the mic so that they look attach to the helmet somehow. Right now they look like they just come out of no where.
By opinion, do you mean our opinion in relavence to H3 correctness, or how we think it should look?
In my personal, non-H3 affected opinion, the pockets look too high. I think they'd look more natural if they were about 3 inches lower, more near the waist than right below the ribs.
Are you adding a scarab battle somewhere?A scarab battle should be cool for B40,along with the other new BSPS you made.
Your right..*kicks the halo box* /:
Anyhow theres gonna be easter eggs? (aslong it wont take too much tagspace).
I think the BDU pants should be a darker shade, closer to brown. Right now it looks like someone took a carrot and rubbed it all over the pants.
Uh, it's not textured fully. >_>
make sure when its skinned you go back to normal halo marine colours
My posts keep disappearing...
Anyway, yeah, I just put these colors there for organization.
I had asked previously, but my post went poof: I'm debating on making a backpack type communicator, but I wanted y'all's opinion on it first. What do you think? Backpack or no?
It's just an updated H1 Marine with upresed model and new amour guys. That's not to say the stock skin will stay the same, but this is NOT a custom marine.
Edit: You can't add the backpack because we're keeping the same coli model.
So Masterz, what's your opinion on the suicide of the suicidal marine? My post got buried, lol.
I think that would be an awesome touch tbh
A small backpack on some marines as a permutation wouldn't hurt would it? It doesn't even require any changes for the collision. Also out of curiosity, what makes a scarab so difficult to do on CE exactly. If suspension animations could be done for the legs, and there are stationary seats on the chassis, and the AA turret is just a giant biped in the seat, what makes it nigh impossible?
Backpacks are fine for marines. You won't be shooting marines, so you shouldn't even notice the lack of collision on the backpack.
Can you do a visor permutation on the helmet also?
isnt halo 400 years in the future? why would there ever be a need for a backpack communicator in 400 years? there are walkie talkies today that can put out a very good range.
Backpacks are more interesting. Halo has never been about realistically portraying the tech of the future; those 400 years are just so it's easier to suspend your disbelief about space-faring warships, energy shields, artificial gravity, super soldiers and the like.
everything you listed was a jump forward in technology, backpack communicators would be a step backwards, if anything
Halo 2 had them so what's the problem? You think 400 years into the future a holy war will be raged upon our species?
The lack of collision on the backpack doesn't change what happens to the projectile when going through it. It'll still hit the marines but it won't look like it impacted upon the backpack.
Only if you get shot from that angle which is what I meant when I mentioned the possibility of it going through the backpack. If it comes from the side, where the round will never hit you with its plotted course of trajectory but will hit the backpack, it will pass through without harming you, just as it would in real life.
I'm not saying I thought they were okay in Halo 2. He asked if backpack coms were okay and I just think its a little out of place. And about "holy wars" in 400 years, If you look at history, they've been going on forever, I seriously doubt 400 years will make this world, let alone the universe if there are other sentient beings a religion-free place.
I wouldn't kill him... :(
Make him not fire at you, but still commit suicide?
Set it up so that he only has the pistol once you hit the trigger volume? I think people tend to kill him for the ammo, so that might work?
Backpacks can still be used to transmit to starships holding position outside of atmosphere and the likes. There's nothing wrong with having a backpack radio.
Just make him have one shot in the pistol. That way, if people kill him for the ammo... well, they're not going to get much, and it also makes sense when he kills himself.
e: I should note that the player should see this as reason not to bother killing him on a second play through.
Yes but precious pistol ammo. =[
Suppose it makes more sense though.
The pistol is silenced anyways. the sound of him blowing his head off won't be as cool.
I never killed the marine for the ammo anyway- I always felt too bad for him. As for the silenced part, that does pose an issue. :/ I assume there isn't enough room to add the normal pistol for that scene?
We don't have a normal pistol :p
Haha. K then.
I'm not saying that 400 years into the future an alien race won't come to our planet and kill us all. I'm saying that it's very unlikely that they would be genocidal maniacs whose "holy prophets" told them to kill us. BTW, Halo takes place more than 500 years in the future. e.g. Battles for Earth take place from 2552 to 2553.
I never noticed that the gun had ammo. Make him invincible and the when you leave, make the script kill him with the scream...or something.
Or give him something useful like a shotgun to shoot at us. It'd be an incentive to kill him and take that precious shotty ammo.
i guess if you want to be that way you could do a normal pistol and have it set to detonate with no effect when dropped, so the player wont be able to use it
The point is getting the player NOT to kill him. The best thing to give him in my opinion would be a plasma pistol. =P
How about, when you come back after discovering the flood, you enter the room and hear him scream and then you fight a human flood?
I don't think you're gonna scream after offing yourself with a .50 cal hand-cannon.
You wouldn't scream with a bullet in your head...
Anyways, you could just take the firing sound from the original pistol, and have it play when you enter a trigger volume in the next room. Then he's dead when you walk back.
E: damn you, Snaf.
The suicide marine isn't happening. You guys can drop the subject.
In halo 3 you can get shot in the head with a sniper and go "BWAAAAHGG"
