I want to work in this field. Imagine Halo done with Havoc's physics and Crytec's rendering- it almost makes me want to drop everything and do a total conversion mod for Halo 1. But I won't.
Now that would be truely amazing.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
Holy fucking shit.
I'd love to see Halo with its graphics upgraded to that level... it'd be mind-blowing. It was impressive enough in terms of art to begin with.
Ahem, but seriously, it's so freaking amazing that we can do that. That's just incredible.
Holy shit, do you guys ever stop to realize that we live in the fucking 21st century, that this may be one of the most exciting periods in human history, past and future?

You're telling me someone happened to be looking at a building and in the 1 second its actually there they had time to snap a picture of it without being blinded? Lightning heats the air around it to the temperature of the friggin sun, you're not going to be getting that close of picture and see just that.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
I'm quite sure that you don't go blind from simply looking at a lightning bolt about 200m away, at most you'd have the bolt burned into your vision for a few moments but there's no way it'd blind you...

They could have been taking a video or taking shots within an interval of that time and yadee-yadaa boom.
Besides it could have been zoomed in (doesn't really look like it).

... I'm not even going to go into much detail on how wrong you are, despite the facts you presented, but I will say this: The picture is not only entirely possible, I've seen countless photos of lightning hitting buildings.
Awesome pic anyway.

I should just install a direct digg script, to immediately repost everything on digg here as soon as it comes up. that'd save me the 5 seconds it takes me to copy and paste. lol.
I've seen it on /b/ and /v/ a few times and this is the highest res I've found. :smith:

Well, that shot was probably lucky, but if you are serious about taking lightning photos - lightning trigger http://www.lightningtrigger.com/
Also, what ross said.

I watched lightening strike a man and his son on the beach and kill them both. I was about 4 cars distance away. We could smell the flesh. I wasn't blinded or toasted. Did hurt my ears though.

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
My cousin told me that it's dangerous when you fire all the cannons like that because you can topside the boat.
Right on there, it's a picture taken of a planet about 25 light years from here, according to what I've read. Yes, I've seen that before, just about half an hour ago actually.
Anyways, looking at those impressive images again, i remember that I've always wondered if that's really the way we would see the respective objects if we had a well enough amateur telescope or if that's really just NASA showing us paintings. :tinfoil:

Re: The best pictures you've seen.
Well, I do believe many of them are false color images, getting their color from spectra invisible to the naked eye, but if that's the case, that just makes it more amazing, because we're seeing stuff that's there but would normally be imperceptible.
I love space. I want to live there.

Stuff like that just makes me want to pack up shop and give up modeling. I'll never be that good...
Edit: Well, technically, I COULD make that, I just couldn't think of it.
